    erm, on the telephone.

Mrs Alias was pregnant with our son, but we were unmarried. I was told i was moving to Cyprus with work, so as soon as i found out i went outside and asked Mrs Alias if she wanted to move to Cyprus with me, and if she wanted too we would have to get married.

and here we are today, living in Cyprus with work. :)

(after all, having kids and being married is no different, having kids is a strong bond than marriage. Marriage comes and goes, Children dont)

Think Mr Alias needs to remember how he proposed, it was in a pub in chester as we was visiting family and he just came out with "what do u think about getting married?" at this point the thought about getting married had not even crossed my mind even though i was pregnant with our little boy and Cyprus was on the cards. Damn men and their memorys.

My ex proposed to me in the pouring rain outside his local pub!

The pub is on top of a hill and if you stood outside you can see right across South Liverpool. It was after closing time, throwing down with rain and he got down on one knee with the lights below him twinkling on us.

I said yes then told him to get up and stop being so stupid!

I had it all planned out like this:

My parents, brother with girlfriend, me and my girlfriend and Grandmother were all going to Cancun, Mexico for the renewing of my parents wedding vows and for a nice holiday! I was 23 so it was a bit weird going on holiday with family again but we decided to spend alot of it doing what we wanted, i had also decided i was going to propose and got pre-approval from her family beforehand. My plan was to wait a couple of days, find out what time sunset was and propose on the beach at sunset just me and her.

    What actually happened:

2 days in to the holiday i have sunset mapped and i found a perfect spot about 15 mins away from our room, we had a lovely dinner planned for that evening with the family and i told them my timings so it would run smoothly. My OH takes FOREVER to get ready despite me nagging her about being late - she says 'whats the rush anyway, im not going anywhere if you keep nagging me!'. In the end we get down to the perfect spot in the dark and rain with lightning fiercly going off over the sea in the distance and i proposed on one very wet knee.

She said yes and then i told her my original plan. She reckons she wont ever be late again (yeah right!)

  • We had discussed getting engaged previously and I thought it would have been around my birthday at the end of feb 2003 but my sister was 18two weeks before and at the end of the night when the party was dying down we got up on kareoke to sing paradise byt the dash board light (long story but we always sing this) half way through the song I sang "Will you take me away will you make me your wife?" then the music cut off I looked at the dj who shrugged turn to look at Hubby and there he was on one knee with a rose in his hand when I looked it was a ring box on the top and he asked me to marry him.

The best bit was that I had bought him an engagement ring also thinking it would happen on my birthday when we went out for a meal and I had planned to say, "Yes but only if you will marry me?". My mum knew about this so she had found his ring in my room and took that to the party so as I was saying yes she passed me his ring and I asked him.

Will never forget that was amazing and loved that all our family and friends were there. It also explained why he had been pacing all night looking really nervous lol. We have been together now for 7years married for almost 3 have a beautiful baby girl who is 2next month and another little bundle on the way.

Sorry that turned out really long.

Aww so many romantic stories :) My OH and marriage was what we wanted, we even chose the engagement ring together. He did the old-fashioned thing, and asked my dad's permission (with me and mum sniggering behind the door when he asked - would have been funny if dad said no!). He then made me wait a few weeks, so I wouldn't know when he was going to "ask me officially". It was on the morning we were due to go together to the bank to sort out the joint mortgage, and he got down on one knee and did the deed. Even though I knew it was coming, I still cried and said yes! We were married a year later :)

On stage whilst on holiday in front of about 600 people! I was so mortified I said no at first, then changed it a split second later to yes.

We didn't get married for a further 3 years and the marriage eventually lasted nearly 16 years.

Edit - He also asked my fathers permission prior as well.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • I've been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of three proposals :o

Number One - Current OH, aged 17. He'd had an absolute skinful and gave my his late grandfather's ring (which he never normally takes off) in the back of his dad's car. Important note, I didn't accept the proposal, but took the ring in case he lost it. I gave it back to him the next day and said if he ever thought to ask again, I'd give it some serious thought.

Number Two - my ex, I was 19. He asked me if he could borrow £100. Nothing unusual there, he was always skint. About a week later, he puts a bag on the table and says that the money he borrowed was inside. Instead there was an engagement ring. (Not really sure why it ended up on my finger...)

Number Three - Current OH aged 26. In Naples at the start of our holiday, we took a walk along the beachfront and saw a couple who were having their wedding photos taken. I was watching for a while, then felt OH tap me on the hip. When I turned round he said "I've been kneeling down here for a while now... will you?".

Outside a local jewellers with Christmas bonus in the bank (many moons ago & as waiting staff so it wasn't much).

And then the romantic words I'll never forget, "If you see something under 30 quid you can have it."

    I managed £32.50 & we've been married 24 years this year.

    Aww
