Tesco's "Value" goods

With sites like this and the knowledge it imparts beiing so well received the "snobbery" will disappear. Those people who continue to laden their trolleys with Finest products will realise they look like money wasting idiots and that they are the subject of the pity of us wised up consumers.
If they are that stuck up what are they doing in Tesco in the first place?

My understanding is that cheap bread is pumped full of extra water not air. I love Warburtons bread but do sometmes buy the Value bread at 19p if I'm only going to toast it.0 -

I have a conspiracy theory they adjust your total bill according to how much you usually spend. They swipe your clubcard, and marginally adjust the prices as they scan until you spend enough.
I'm sure it's that, and not me just buying too much unnecessary junk.0 -
thats a good point..i have often wondered why the 'value' ranges have the most crappy packaging...it wouldn't cost them more to come up with a nice design and lettering etc, rather than just red and white stripes and block letters.
also made me remewmber when i was small..and my mum came home with kwik saves 'no frills ' bread.....i thought it meant the crust would be straight...not wiggly like normal...he he.....
as for 'value' toilet rolls..they are a fat waste of money, we get throught them more than twice as fast as andrex or some such, so it works out more expensive in the end....Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

Those Tesco Value jeans are marvellous. I've been running a pair in now for three weeks and they haven't stretched or gone baggy around my !!!!!!.
For four quid, you don't ask questions about sweatshops or the like, you just get wearing and enjoy.
Of course,if Tesco ever decide to bring out a 'finest' jean, it'll really throw a spanner in the works. I've already noticed a certain snobbery factor. A couple loaded their trolley to the hilt with 'finest' items, looked right down their noses at me and the Mrs.just cause we had a basket load of value groceries.
A right old fashioned look it was too.
It was like the look I got at school when I wore my Delamare 'Tesco turn-ups' with the white stitching.
I only ever shop at LIDL and ASDA (is this lower on the supermarket stratosphere?)- and d-amn proud of it too!!!! Let those sheep think what they want. Baaaaa!0 -
Personally - and I have absolutely no evidence of this - I think that the "big" supermarkets have only developed a "value" range to compete with Lidl, Aldi etc. I still think that the big Supermarkets try to tempt you in with some offers or a value range, knowing that you'll buy other more expensive stuff while you're there.
I only buy tinned & dry goods at Lidl. I only buy meat from the butcher and veg from the greengrocer. IMO, meat & veg are the worst quality & worst value at the Supermarket.
As for the original question ... sorry. Never go to Tesco or any of the others (Sainsbury, Safeway, Morrison etc)Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Okay, sorry but I'm going to go back to my days of buying packaging:
Tesco Value range packaging is a 3 colour print job, dirt cheap to print and for instance £10 per 1000 impressions. To make the printing plates of the plastic packaging, it would cost about £200 per plate = £600.
Tesco "normal" and "Finest" are up to 8 colours and with all their fancy pictures it has a different finish too. So, £200 per printing plate = £1600. (one off charge, but if the product is unsuccessful, then this has to be absorbed by the supplier) Plus the lower volume that the Finest range sells, a supplier of this produce/food could be paying near £40 per 1000 impressions.
The supplier to Tesco makes hardly any margin (1% to a loss) on the Value range because they're wanting to keep Tesco happy and maintain the business. Tesco, on the other hand, want at least a 30 - 40% margin on EVERYTHING.
If I could swear, then I would as it makes me really irate when you hear how much profit these supermarkets make.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

should have asked them if marks and spencers or harrods were shut and that they were slumming it in tescos lolThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear

VickyA ... I could not agree more. Supermarkets make my blood boil, especially when you look at what they've done to our farming industry. Woe betide any farmer who gets into a contract with a Supermarket. Please .. buy your meat from the butcher! If you don't, we'll soon be unable to buy British Meat, which is the safest and best quality in the World.
Bloomin Supermarkets ... grump!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Keep going, you're waking me up to "ethical" issues etc, I'm always way behind the rest but I do have a conscience and didnt realise there was such a problem. (Sorry for my ignorance)“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
