On a radio consumer programme I listen to ( BBC Three Counties) they did a blind tasting of baked beans last week . Top came Tesco own brand , followed by Tesco value beans , third were Heinz and last was HP.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

I dislike the value rice. I only buy the basmati rice. It cooks better and tastes soooooooo much better. Well worth the extra few bob.

Shopping in Tescos today buying, amongst other things, frozen veg. carrots, 79p. Further down the aisle, carrots, 9p, organic. made sure this was correct and was told that quite often things come in with a silly price. big size curry feeds 4, 17p. standard size, 79p! I can only believe that someone must have keyed in the wrong price missing a didgit, I mean, 9p?0

Could you give me more info on the curries eg make, weight etc.
Many Thanks0 -
I really couldnt tell the weight only that the lady assured me that the price was right for the carrots (as i see from your thread) and went on to tell me about the value (i think) huge curry. i blanked then cos im not into value meals only value items such as pasta or rice. you they have to put all sorts of fillers in those things. usually you get what you pay for.0

>:( I am geting really cheesed off with Tesco lately, have you noticed how many items on the shelves have no price tag? Seven things I wanted were not priced , at the checkout I was prpeparedarto pay the price they were coming up as and refused to accept them, the look from the till girl was one of disgust
>:(I am really getting cheesed off with Tesco lately, has anyone else noticed how many items have no prices on the shelves? I listed 8 items I wanted, went to the checkout got them priced and refused to accept them as they were more than I was willing to pay, they were not happy, this happens every week in my store, now if there is no price I dont buy!. Mind you I did nab a bargain , I got 3 candles in a glass in a set for 99p I thought they were cheap as I paid 3.50 in wilko for similar, I bought them 4 times before they realized their error, they should have been and are now 99p EACH!I must keep my eyes peeled for more errors and will put it on this board. You live..You learn.:)0 -

I've already noticed a certain snobbery factor. A couple loaded their trolley to the hilt with 'finest' items, looked right down their noses at me and the Mrs.just cause we had a basket load of value groceries.
A right old fashioned look it was too.
That is what the retailers want - you to feel embaressed about buying the value range. Why do you think the packaging is invariably white with blue or red writing. Some product are just as good in value or own brand.
Like Martin says try a brand down shift if you buy Heinz beans, buy own brand if you buy own brand buy value.Every day above ground is a good day.0
