Total nonsense regarding the thread, but, someone may find 12v power without a MOBO useful !
Big plug on the end of a spare PSU [ ATX connector ] has twenty [ or more ] coloured wires, see the GREEN [ pin 14 ]. Then ANY black wire, there should be one right next to the GREEN.
Cut a piece of wire and bare the ends [ to make a jumper / or / use a paperclip ] then stick one end of the jumper in GREEN and the other end in BLACK.
Plug the PSU into the mains and it should switch on, you now have a ' bench ' test for MOLEX / whatever / etc.

Where does the budgie fit in again? And does it need to be GREEN or BLACK?
I dunno, I'm quite enjoying this thread...0 -

The budgie is the safeguard, it dies your know it's not safe
I would have summised it being a PSU fault if testing with a multimeter but that's just me. I'll admit I wouldn't know which wires I'd have to check with a multimeter without reading up on which colour was -5,+5v etc.
I just get my PSU tester and it does the job for me in about 2 seconds

Pffft ! takes all the fun out of it!
There's nothing quite like trying to hold both probes in which are slightly too big for the hole in with one hand, whilst stretching for the switch with the other hand and holding the other cables out of the way with your elbow..... nothing comes close..
PSU Tester??!! Pfffft.0 -
what a totally pointless thread, I should know better than to reply, but then again if I did what would be the point in this post?0

My home PC broke, so I put in front of me in the living room and took it apart whilst semi watching the tv. In the end I found the usb port metallic contacts had become crossed and shorted the whole thing.
Unshorted them, hey presto one fixed pc.
I enjoy the hardware side much more than software. Software for me is too simplistic and not challenging - all you need is experience and to know your way around a programme, whereas hardware needs a bit of laterlism IMO!0 -

Yeah - once you've read through the 50,000,000-or-so lines of code in Windows Server 2003 and memorised them, re-writing the Operating System is childs play!

Your'e right, I was refering to the software monkeys that portray themselves as engineers - you know the ones that think reinstalling windows or setting up ports is rocket science:rotfl:
And yes, I'm a humble mortgage broker so who the heck am I, some dumb snake oil peddler!0
