I didn't get a single letter from Santander today (Friday being the usual day for Santander deliveries)

    I got TWO!

First one telling me they had been approached by a third party to help in my serious financial situation. I get one a week of these.

Second one telling me I had better pay my default on my Credit Card (10 defaults on this now, one per month of DMP) or they would, horror or horrors, have to report my conduct to the Credit Reference Agencies.

Does anyone get this nonesense from Santander or is it just me?

Tomorrow I will get the same for my loan and maybe overdraft (although they have gone quiet on that one this month).

Ah well, payment number eleven due very soon so all is good.

hope everyone is OK and doing well.

Eyeopener you are aware that an account can on be defaulted once??? If Santander ever took you to court, I believe it would be thrown out because of all of these defaults, one per account, not allowed to change the date or move it around. They could change the name, ie if a DCA took over the account they are allowed to change their name on the default but that is it!!!!

Thanks E2. I have a loan that after 7 years has just 5 payments to go, be glad to see the back of it so interested to see that gone. Daft as it sounds I hope the fact I will then have a little more DMP to prorata to the others doesn't kick the computer madness off again!

I'm almost sure we started our DMPs at the same time with the same duration thought to be at that time. Mine's been extended as I've not been able to get all interest stopped. Not shouting too loudly about it as have been fortunate in the main and certainly better than what the alternative was. I do hope yours finishes when you expect it to. Do you keep your own records as I wouldn't want you to get a nasty shock, hopefully they are in the past for us all.

My car insurance is due in a couple of months. I'm hoping to get CCCS to review my budget after then and before loan paid off so can just make one adjustment if you see what I mean.

For now I will be happy when I can update my signature tomorrow. small steps and all. Mine and other peoples landmarks keep me going but I hope that's not disengaging for others?

You know something HH, it had never occured to me that updating my sig would be disengaging to others. I do it to remind me every time I log in where I am and hopefully show others that stupid debt can be beaten, even if it takes a while.

Mine should finish when I expect BUT I have a feeling that at least one of my creditors may resume interest soon because i've approached minimum payment on it (Barclaycard have already done it, grrr) but we shall see. I just hope it doesnt start stretching into 2014, I want it all done by then.

We shall just have to wait and see. I can't increase payments as i'm on a pay freeze at work and I haven't got any funds for f & F so I just keep plodding on.

    Take care all

Has anyone asked to pay less after a review and if so what did the creditors do? Initially I was going to tough it out this year but another utility bill has come in today (I have done a comparrison and no difference was offered) and they want to put up the monthly DD. So depending on what is likely to happen if I decide I want to pay less, I might well ask to. Last year was manageable, just not sure I want the effort of a struggle if the creditors would not kick up too much of a stink if I do ask to pay less. Food, petrol and pay freeze is the cause.

Done some maths and I'd like it to be reduced by £20.00 a month. Does not sound like much but would make a big difference to me. I'd so like it all to be the amount less paid to Barclaycard, since they add £50.00 a month but guess Payplan would not be able to do that.

Long time no hear. Good to see you're still hanging in there Gabriella. If we had met on the street, we would have to go for coffee, lunch and then dinner with the amount you've missed. Keep in touch girlie - I miss my friends when they disappear.

As for asking for less, be in my shoes. I have no idea what to do. I need to pay less anyway since I no longer have hubbies input but do I request for it to be lowered at the end of this month just to lose my job at the end of April and have to pay nothing or alternatively, get another crappy paid job and request once again to pay even less. I betcha that is definitely gonna screw with my perfect record and annoy the hell out of them. Help anyone? does anyone have any advice on the way forward or should I just stay put and play it by ear?

The girl in Citizens Advice was quite young this time (my regular is off on maternity) and I have to say that I did not find her a great source of comfort or assistance. My friend negotiated her own rates and despite owing a lot more than me, she's paying back a helluva lot less every month. I'm tempted ....

Gibbs, reviews are essential but do kick of some computer madness in my opinion. I was advised to reduce my DMP by 4% after 6 months review. Egg then reinstated full interest but I appealed and this was refunded. I feel I will need another review in the summer with petrol madness and other price increases that are not reflected in raise in incomes. I think there should be reviews but better to make changes in one swoop rather than one this month, one next one in 2 months if that makes sense?

Gabs, boo to Barclaycard, have you tried to appeal? Congratulations on the new job, I hope you get the outcome you want.

Mephista, have been thinking about you, you really have your plate full don't you? Sending a dodgy group hug over. Do you have CCCS? Can you call Debtline. With your partner out of the picture is it time to properly go back to the drawing board and see what the options are including bancrupcy? In the interim keep appealing, don't just roll over and take it.

Hello to everyone else. Pretty quiet around here these days. I hope that's a good sign and everyone is ok. Teds come back, I need shopping advice if nothing else. Have been gracing Costco recently so daren't do that and Aldi!

It was a year ago I was having my lightbulb moment, CCs slashed limits and I was refused a consolidation loan by my bank. I was working my way through the threads for information. This time next week it will be a year since I did the debt remedy tool on CCCs, two days later I applied online and had new banks and wages changed etc within a matter of days. I haven't managed to stop all interest. In the beginning I though I would be paid off in 39 months, when I totalled all the forgotten bills it was 41.35 months, now it looks like 48 months in total. I will formally hit my DMP anniversary in 4 weeks time with almost 25% paid off. Yes the other three years feel a long way off but now I know I can do it and I know how great my life will be post DMP. Huge thanks to everyone for their support.

  • Need a little advice please ....

I wrote to Barclaycard ages ago asking them to look at interest and cancel and refund my PPI, they wrote back to me saying 'We're looking into it we'll get back to you by xx/xx/11'

They didn't but a few days later I got another letter saying 'We're still looking into it, we'll get back to you by 14/03/11'

And they haven't - can I write to Ombudsman now, or do I still need to wait for the bank to get back to me?

    Hi Hopelessly and everyone else.

Thanks so much for your advice. I did try to get the review with Citizens Advice since that's who did all the hard work for me originally which paid off but I think they are flummoxed because I don't know whether I'm coming or going at the moment in terms of job, money, etc. As it is, my mum and dad have offered to lend me some more money over the next few months (on long long long term payback!!!) so that I can hopefully keep the house. I'm hoping this will give me time to get a part-time job - any job in the evenings so that I can earn the extra dosh to make up for the money I got from my ex *sob*.

You're right, Hopelessly, I do have a lot on my plate but I'm determined to try and get through it as best I can and hope that all will work out all right in the end. I might employ my friend (for free) of course to negotiate for me since she seemed to do so well on her own.

Hang in there everyone. If I can see the light when all around me is turning dark, then so can you
