  • My wife is currently on maternity - but the problem is whilst we are struggling at the minute - we are just about existing. Cant afford basics like clothes for myself and my wife (I have two pairs of pants which fit me - one black pants reserved for meetings and one pair of jeans which the button has worked loose on the top. And are doing our absolute best for DS but he is just growing and growing and being first time parents - we want him to have new clothes.

I have looked at going back full time to work for someone else (BOO HISS) and basically I could not get the same money I generally get month on month working for myself - which is not enough for what I need to pay.

So Then I thought about moving into rented accomodation - which would save me about £50 a month in our area - however from speaking to the letting agents near us, they dont want anyone who is self employed unless I can find a deposit for 3 months rent on a 6 month lease!

I think I need to sit down and do a lot more maths and see what we can work out - I have found a £13 a month saving already

As a mum of 3 (now grown) boys I absolutely know where you're coming from with the clothes! We got over the problem by, when they grew out of everything, buying 1 new outfit, asking for Mothercare vouchers/cash for their birthdays and then (and you may not like this) getting really nice stuff from charity shops and boot sales! We were very picky and got lovely, nearly new things all the time. They didn't know the difference and nor did anyone else. My middle son trashed everything he wore anyway so we were always looking for more bargains!:rotfl:
Cheer up, clothes and possessions are nothing in this world - family and friends and good health are all. Your little one (if he could say so) would probably rather you were happy, stress free and getting your debts down than buying him new clobber! (Sorry Martin, pinched that sentiment from one of your speeches).:)

NLID - have you checked that you are getting all the benefits/tax credits you're entitled to? Ask friends/family/neighbours/Freecycle for kiddy clothes.

I have gotten many outfits (new and nearly new) from eBay. No one has known any different. TBH when there young the clothes get covered in dirt, food, poo, all of the above. Plus they grow so quickly.

My mum bought my LO a pair of jeans for his Easter. They look smart and pricey, I thought she'd got them from Next or something. In fact they were £1.75 'smart price' jeans from Asda. Trousers with roll ups are also really good, they grown with the baby :D.

Oh and primark is really good for kids clothes!

Excellent, wasn't too sure. The butcher was really nice and just kept adding extra to the bags.

I now have a freezer full of meat which is good. No idea what to make now, hahaha.

    Good morning everyone.

I'm up really early today when I didn't really need to be. I have a job interview at 6 for a real job for when I finish uni scary stuff lol.

wow sounds like the date went very well munchki then, thats great news :)

    Fingers crossed!!!

    Yay Munchki

Mabel & Nixi - nice logo!!

NLID - I understand where you are coming from but beleive me NLID junior doesn't even know what clothes are let alone worry about them being new!!! I have a DD and DS, both wear 2nd hand (I am quite picky though!!) and I also buy some bits new for them...but never at full price!!

Have a look at ebay, great for 2nd hand bargains for kids. Carboots are good too. I buy clothes for the kids a season or two in advance, eg in the sales I will buy a size or two bigger than they need and put them away. The only thing I will never compromise on are shoes, I always buy new and always leather.....

Don't beat yourself up about it.... there is no stigma in junior wearing hand me downs or 2nd hand stuff you picked up cheap. Trust me, when he starts crawling then you wil be glad the trackie bottoms that he was worn the knees out on only cost you 50p!!!

    Off to do some jobs

    pop back later.

Mrs Money I got rid of all my cds on musicmagpie. They don't pay a lot but they are very easy to list and they send you post paid labels to send them. The cheque if I remember right took about 10 days to come.
    Jan £10 a day £326.75/£310
  • well I dont know what to say - its not me that minds buying the second hand clothes - its my other half who is a bit of a worrier that the other baby might have 'something'

I know its stupid, and so does she but its just the one thing she cant help is with the clothes - George are great as are matalan etc etc

On the good news front - Today I managed to cut a 1/3rd of the loss of the web hosting side of my business only another 2/3rds to go and thats breaking even! Unfortunatley its not like I can cut out any of the web servers as my clients rely upon them. And if the web servers where to be switched off I would lose the other side of my income which is profitable.

Right now onto stripping the rest of the waste out of the system....

Boil wash (or anything over 60 degrees) will kill any dirt/bacteria on the clothes.Works in a salon where you get some less than clean individuals at times. Or soak them in milton first then boil wash, hth.
