I used a bag for life yesterday and the checkout guy gave me 2 points for it, which I think is fair as you can fit two normal bags' worth into a bag for life. :)

(AFAIK you're only meant to get the one point for reusing a bag for life though :()

Just done my first big shop re-using last times bags. Unpacking them and folding them ready for re-use, I noticed that some have got holes along the bottom.

Found myself wondering whether re-enforcing the bottoms with parcel tape would prolong their life. Do you think I'm getting a bit obsessive?

  • I have just returned from Tesco and been awarded three points for using two 'Bags for Life' and a bottle carrier, I have been using the Bags for Life for some time now and find them excellent, they are very large and also very strong and when they are worn they get replaced for free. Apparently Tesco hope to save ONE BILLION BAGS with this venture, it will actually cost them money according to the supervisor I spoke to this morning.

I posted this post earlier in a different tesco clubcard thread, thought it might be useful here too.

went to Tesco Folkestone and was peed off to be rewarded with 1 green point for not using 4 of their carrier bags. Apparently a large cardboard box gets 1 point only, and old lady type bag on wheels gets 2 points, But 4 sainsbury plastic carrier bags gets 4 points all for an equal pile of goods. (or less probably) When I queried it an irratated supervisor said "oh for heavens sake it's friday afternoon, give her 1 extra point". How I resisted the urge to say bollards I'll load it all into tesco bags then... I don't know.

The reason why some people are getting a bit frustrated with some checkout operators not even knowing about the scheme is because Tesco has rushed it out.

My 'formal training' for it consisted of being 'trained' while serving customers, two days before the scheme was released.

There's meant to be a TV advertisement roll out for it, but I have yet to see one.

We used our bags for life today as always. They did not show up on the receipt so we asked CS. We were told "They will show up on your statement". That doesn't sound right to me. It had 0 on the receipt. More training needed perhaps?

On my receipt the other day I got 9 green points for 9 bags used (it was a big shop).

The receipt says 'bag re-use' 9

But lower down, the 'total Green Points' says 0.

I think this is because - if you are used to studying Tesco receipts (as all good MSE'rs all should, for any overprices!) - the total Clubcard points is always a day or so behind. So check your receipts again, it will say something like 'points total up to xx August = 5 million' (I wish!) Green points = 0.

When I go again tomorrow I expect to see this final total showing the 9 points from the other day.
