Having worked from home for myself a few years ago from home. It is recomended that you cover all things like bank and insurance details. I asume you will be keeping books for tax purposes and claming against certain items fuel, car, printing heating and rooms. As this can all be set against tax. I agree with some others in, think outside the box and get some mag signs for your car, even removable boards that can be taken in? Even hang some bloons up?

Hosting parties in my home???
Where did I ever say that ha ha

And yeah, as stated I'm already a director of a limited company so will be using the same accountant!

Mag signs for cars - done. Signs for outside that can be taken in - nope, as someone will steal them ha ha!

I've had the info I required and know that I will more than likely have to take the sign down... but I'll wait and see!

As for the McDonald signs etc...I can understand if they were illuminated etc... but again as I said, there are pubs either side of the road with large PVC signs outside - bigger than mine, and they get away with it - permission or not!

If I've offended anyone, I apologise. But again thanks for the info...

It just seems that whenever you try to make yourself better in this world there is always someone waiting to knock you back down! (As shown on this forum and in 'real' life!)

A few quotes from a few famous people:

“No man ever got very high by pulling other people down. The intelligent merchant does not knock his competitors. The sensible worker does not work those who work with him. Don't knock your friends. Don't knock your enemies. Don't knock yourself.”

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door!"

"This is my only shot at life, so I'm not going to go down without a fight. I'd rather live with the consequences of my actions rather than the regrets of my inactions."

    Cheers

OK, so I conceded defeat... after the planning department at my local council asked me to take it down...

The planning guy was really good, basically saying that he understood that we were trying to start a business and that the government was all for it... i.e. people starting businesses from home, but the sign had to come down... which was fair enough.

He wrote me a letter basically saying that we could put the sign on the inside of the window, gave me some measurements for a sign that could be outside without permission, and basically offered some pointers such as logo printed balloons outside the house (tied to gatepost) etc

So, I got my balloons printed and put some outside today (only a bunch of 3) for the mums and dads to see when dropping kids off at school. Few people looked, and one lady actually called to enquire! "Great!" I thought...

Until next door came out, cut the ribbons and let the balloons go!!!

Now, the balloons aren't on their property (we have seperate gate posts) and the planning office said I was totally within my rights to do this.

Any ideas what I can do... I can't afford to put a constant stream of balloons outside, only for the neighbours to let them go!!??

Hang them out of your upstairs window....

Talk to your neighbour about what you have been told you can do and apologise for offending him before with your misguided external sign which you clearly accept now wasn't OK. Let him think he has won.

Things like this can escalate very easily and your actions have probably antagonised a few people already like it or not so try appeasing them. Nice to hear the council official was of use and came up with practical advice

Talking to the neighbour isn't an option... I've tried... he is just a big bully who thinks he owns the street... no one likes him, its just us who happen to live next door to him!

As I've stated before, everyone else in the road is really nice and commented on our efforts to increase business.... apart from the people next door!!

I don't want to go to the police, but really cant put up with him much more...

This week we have had the environmental health knocking on our door as the people next door have reported us for trying to poison their dog and rabbits by putting poison down the side of our home.... I invited the council guy in and proved that we dont use poison - we have a 1 year old playing in the garden so would never dream of it!!

I just need it to end!

Ha Ha, I'm not going to let him drive me out, anyhow... what with the recession and house prices etc, I couldn't anyway!

Then put a smaller sign in your window and maybe go and talk to the mums rather than expecting a bunch of balloons to do the work for you. You've obviously spent a while p1ssing your neighbour off, and now you're reaping the rewards. ;)
