It surely cant be 8 feet by 2 feet. I think the poster MUST mean 8 inches by 2 inches.
If no customers are coming to the house - why do you need a sign at all? Its a red rag to a bull with your neighbours by the sound of it. If, as you say, you are just using your home as an office for the business (which many of us, including me do) then I dont see the problem but nor do I see why you need a sign?0

So do I, as long as it is done correctly, hanging an 8 x 2 sign on the front of a private house is not the way to do things properly.
No I agree, as I said the problem would be the sign. What I was getting at is it's pretty disheartening to have have people pull apart everything you've put hard work and effort into. If the world had a few more people who were self motivated enough to give it a go rather than sit about and do nothing then it would be a better place.
This is not an attack on anyone but constructive criticism is much more useful than pulling people down all the time. Thats what I was trying to get at and if you take the quote in the context of the whole reply I think it is apparent that I wasn't suggesting the sign was correct but was trying to offer alternatives. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

            Well " 8' x 2' " means 8 foot by 2 foot.;)0

And its not exactly running a business from home as all the work is done at events and venues....
So its really just sort of, getting the customers from home.
 .
you need to tell your mortgage company and house insurers though.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

It IS 8 foot x 2 foot, but made of low grade thin PVC, affixed to the wall. Does not protrude from the wall and does not flap about in the wind.

Bit more info - we do balloons, invites etc for parties. We live opposite a primary school - mothers and fathers walking past every day, just trying to advertise a little! And it is only one neighbour who is kicking off... and by the way, he is a builder who 'works' from home!

 Why?0

Again, I would say that this would only be required if you had people visiting the house. You don't need to do this if you take work home from the office, do you? And as I said previously if it is just a registered address of the business then its no different from any other self employed person who works from home.
Unfortunately, I think you will be on to a loser if your neighbour does report you. I think a bit of thinking outside the box will be required to get you your publicity, new thread maybe? lolSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

            LOL
There is more than one way to skin a cat.... maybe a huge box van with my logo etc all over it parked straight outside their house is the way to go!!0

Obviously I'm not suggesting that you do that........... but parking restrictions not withstanding and if you live on a public road then there wouldn't be a great deal they could do about it :rotfl:Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

has he got an enormous sign on his house advertising his company though?peterc2609 wrote: »"you need to tell your mortgage company and house insurers though"
 Why?
because both have an interest in what your home is being used for, and your insurers may refuse any claims you make if you haven't told them. You really don't come across as very bright at all. I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

Its really weird, we never started out to annoy anyone... and no one else on the block is bothered. Just these neighbours, they seem to get on us for every little thing we do... and we've never retaliated... maybe until now!0
