Thinking about it, what does the sign do?
Is it a type of business that will pick up a lot of passing trade, or do you mostly do business over the phone from other advertising?
If it's the first, are you on a route that would get alot of passer bys, that would drop in?0

Yeah we live opposite a primary school... quite a large one, and the mothers/fathers congregate opposite our houses every day!
This is the main reason for doing it!0

Sounds good then, even if they make you take it down, you can always print it on the back of your bedroom curtains. (until they catch up with you again)0

            Ha Ha good idea!!!
Are the regulations only surrounding Advertising? What if I put a sign up that wasn't advertising anything at all... would that be allowed?0

What would the sign say, because if it was even the name of the business then that would consitute advertising.
If you read the link in one of the early posts then you are able to have a sign up to 0.6m2 for temporary use. You could try that if you could get it closer to the road and if the business is a success then apply for planning for a permenant sign, to find out if you will likely be successful in your application, speak to your local planners. Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

I'm just thinking ahead here... and basically getting one back at the neighbours... but it could say:
"There used to be a sign here advertising our Party business, but we had to take it down as the neighbours at no. XXX became too jealous"
Then again.. that would probably cause trouble ha ha0

The outside of the house is white. The sign is white with small black letters...!?!
You cant see it from either of next doors homes, there are no houses opposite... if you look out of next doors window you look straight at a pub with Sky Sports signs and happy hours signs all over the wall!
Good luck for your business and hope it goes well. Advertising on the outside of you home though without correct planning is not a great way to go about it.
If the sign is unobstrusive (at 8ft by 2ft I would probably disagree!) then its not really serving any advertising purpose is it as the point of advertising boards is to catch people's attention.
You need to keep you home separate from this and get out there delivering cards/flyers etc and get to craft shows/wedding fayres etc if applicable. Get word of mouth around via your own friends and family and offer out a few initial cheap orders to get interest up. Consider selling on ebay etc
Just lose the unnecessary sign on your home0

Even large businesses like McDonalds are only allowed to have comparatively small signs, and that is on the main shopping street. I would think that an 8' x2' sign on a residential dwelling would be considered to be well over the top by most Planning Committees.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0

Are you trying to advertise a business or piss off your neighbours? You describe one of your neighbours as being a 'neighbour from hell' because he had the temerity to (rightfully) object to your signage, yet you seem to have some interpersonal issues yourself.
Despite what you've written, I see absolutely no benefit in putting up this sign. If you really want to attract the mothers from the local school then hand out some leaflets. This sign on your house also gives out the wrong message. If I saw a sign like that I'd wonder why the hell someone was offering to host parties in their own home and would definitely avoid the company.0
