just got back from Pilates and a little scoot round CoOp for a couple of things. Went bargain spotting, as you do, to see what I could find and found a whole 1.5kg Elmwood chicken (better than caged, but not as good as free range) that has a use by date of today for 99p!

I already have a chicken in the freezer, but a bargain like that can't be missed, so have stashed that one away as well now. That will contribute significantly to next months meal plan

we have sweet bean curry tonight (37p per portion) and I bought some mince from the butcher (better quality for the same price as the CoOp) to make cottage pies and lasagnas. Will be trying the plan recipes, so am looking forward to doing that

also got a couple of pkts of dried peas to try sowing them to grow pea shoots ala Alys Fowler - much cheaper than pkts of seeds

    hello :)

well the bad news is that steaming takes a similar time in whichever vessel :( but I use the SC for economy. However, if you cook the filling for slightly longer so the lentils have plumped up and disintegrated more, I think you could get away with an hour as a hob-top method. I can test it if you like?

Shame you can't run the month 3 planner, but great that you'd like to test some of the recipes :)

As there are quite a few vegans in your family, do you think we can find any other testers (weezl asks hopefully :))

No others to try it, i'm afraid. I am just about the only one that cooks. BIL cooks, but works every hour possible and has just got married to someone that doesn't cook. I will do my best to test recipe in the run up to it though and help where possible. I have made the mung bean savoury bites today. I have loaded the picture and recipe on my site and will transfer the info over later. I have cooked the peas, but don't know if I will manage the risi... as i'm off out now and it will depend on what time I get back. May have to wait until Sunday/Monday. Until later....

Thank you for the lemon answers. I will check my order with ASDA.
We are going to have shepherds pie tonight and rise e bisi tomorrow when there are more of us as it did stretch a long way last time I made it. I keep trying to get my lot to eat more cake and biscuits but they are full.

I was weighed today and I have gained 1lb in two weeks. I think the chocolate was the cause not the plan. We also were weighed in a different room last time. I am good at finding excuses.

I have found something not on the shopping list..salt. I don't usually buy any but the bread does need some in or it is a bit tasteless. And I have eventually remembered to buy some today. Not bad to have got 10 days in without it.

ISOM I was quite good I didn't buy the chocolate, I won it in a raffle. Or is that another excuse?

Made Risi e Bisi with frozen peas tonight., also made it drier as I didn't like it sloppy last time.

Quarted ingredients but used 80g frozen peas. Cooked rice peas and onions for 15 mins until water all absobed then added bacon and cheese.

Good portion size. Enjoyed it so will doing it again this way.:)

I've made the Pasta Alfredo tonight, with a few added extras....a bit more bacon, some fried onion, some peas and some herbs.
I'm afraid I'm struggling to not have a bit more veg mixed in to my meals.

I hope I'm not ruining your plan too much weezl but my added tweaks are making the meals a bit more like our 'normal' meals.

I did the same with the chilli I made last night too.

    Please don't be mad :)

I've also got another batch of bread on the go...fingers crossed

    :rotfl:

    I'm not mad frankie :)

I've been a bit worried about something different though, so I thought I'd explain why and see if we could come up with a creative solution, as it's been preying on my mind and interfering with sleep a bit, which is not what you want as a new mum really :(:o

I'm worried about the veg that folk have bought, and how we keep it ok throughout the month. I'd be so gutted if potatoes carrot and onion went off and money was wasted. The apples are fine because applecurd keeps for a month in sterilised jars, so I'm happy about those. I've also finalised my lemon cordial recipe, so am happy about the lemons.

The way it worked for me when I tested a prototype the previous month worked because I started with a pretty empty freezer, but I know some of you didn't have chance to empty yours much before we began.

I wonder if the testers could have a look at their freezer space and their veg, and post any logistical issues you see, and we'll all put our heads together and work out ways that no-one lands up with rotten veg.

This may mean changing the order the meals are eaten in so I thought it was important we tackled it now.

I hope I've phrased my question clearly, if you're a tester and you've bought lots/everything on the list please pop on and answer my question, and then I'll be able to stop fretting :)

    Thanks loads :)
