    DO NOT CHANGE THE PLANNER!!!!!!
Everyone has different opinions, ideas etc you have came up with a magnificent meal plan which is full of nutional goodness and comes to everyone needs. You have put in so much work, now please relax and don't change anything.

Weezl, don't apologise about the oil, its no matter. For some people it worked, for others it didn't.

As for the em fresh fruit requirement, That was me Weezl, as that is a big concern for me.

I actually STILL believe fresh fruit is better nutritionally rather than frozen/canned.
I know children i only know what fresh fruit looks like only because they have it at school and that's in 2010. Shocking or what?

During the summer we pick tons of wild blackberries, elderberries etc. from around where we live, My MIL gives us, home grown apples (if she has any spare), rhubarb and strawberries, all of which i freeze and use through out the year. Last year i got two black bags full of wind blown apples,( freecycle), from some one who lives a mile away from me. so not everything we eat is from thousands of miles away.I try to buy locally/seasonally produced food where i can, but it is so expensive.

I grew up with serious health problems because of lack of nutrition, vitamins iron etc. I swore my boys would never have that kind of diet and luckily no matter what state of hardship i'm in they always have fresh fruit/veg.

Maybe frozen isn't bad for you, BUT i personally believe its essential for children to know what fresh food looks/feels/tastes like. I also don't like ideas of mounds of sugar in a can of fruit or as dried fruit. Weezl, i ams lowly coming orund to the idea, courtesy of yourself and your OH, you wonderful people.

My children looked at the dried oats (readybrek stuff) and said "what that muck?". The boys are used to oats, saying that they didn't see me making porridge earlier, so they didn't notice the hot oats! Otherwise i don't think they would eaten it to be honest.
The boys also ahem heard me say how i thought it was very bad for them and was preprocessed rubbish.:o

THIS IS MY OWN OPINION PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY OFFENCE BY THIS, AS I DON'T MEAN ANY TOWARDS ANYONE. I HOPE I HAVE NOT UPSET ANYONE BY SAYING WHAT I HAVE, IF I HAVE PLEASE ACCEPT MY SINCEREST APOLOGIES.

    Meal times

Breakfasts: - porridge, bran flakes, toast, weetabixs/pancakes (occasionally)
Pack lunches :- sandwiches , cheese, ham, salami etc with tomatoes, cucumber + mayonnaise, yoghurt, fresh fruit, water or HM cake
Home:- same as above + toast with above or pate
Dinner: - normally we eats what on the planner anyway, so nothing in the evening as changed for us.

So the only real thing i would lose is pate, nut butter for pack lunch as unfortunately my children would be picked on at school for eating that kind of food. But as my children eats loads they would probably eat the pate etc as a snack before dinner.

    HTH

Blumming heck that's a rant and a half. Please feel free to delete my post, i won't mind, its just me ranting on, again
    :o
  • I doubt you will have caused offence Kezlou and I think you make a very valid and interesting point.

You say that part of your drive to give you children fresh fruit and vegetables is because of the things you didnt have as a child. I think this is a very powerful motivator for lots of parents and a very difficult thing for so many of us to change or give up. For me the big thing is variety in packed lunches, I had years and years of nothing but a cheese sandwich. Personally, the thing I swore was that my son would never suffer that and I put a lot of effort into making his packed lunches interesting and appetising.

I dont think it changes, whatever it was that you swore, foodwise, would or would not happen to your child is always going to be something that is going to be hard to change and difficult for anyone following a subsistence plan.

Maybe this type of thing needs to be sensitively acknowledged somewhere in the write up.
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.

I'm looking forwards to the veggie planner though I'm really worried I'll really miss having fresh fruit! I eat loads of it - at least 3 portions throughout the day - usually for lunch or afternoon snack! :o
I too am looking forward to the veggie planner, and I too know I would miss fruit :o

I think I'll probably always be scared she might say 'but next month I'll add in £300 worth of luxuries' and then I'll have failed. But I think this is me overreacting :o

she might even say, I don't want 6 F and V portions, 5 is fine for me, or 'Omega, schmomega, I never had any before!' and live on 60p a day :rotfl:

Sorry I do get what you're all saying now, I just thought people meant to adjust the planner (which is partly what I'm up for this month revealing) when you weren't meaning that.

I think we need a code for what's 'planner change necessitating' type feedback.

I think you may be over reacting Weezl
Shirley may spend an extra couple of quid to accomodate the circumstances and tastes of her family... But £300 more :eek:;)

    good idea :)

80g is a portion of canned fruit, and 150ml is the portion size for a glass of juice, 2 cans of pineapple in juice from asda yields 8 portions of pineapple and 1.5 juice portions, which makes it slightly more frugal than the apples, because we can also count the juice :)

The only thing that slightly puts me off is that I don't know if it will satisfy those who ticked that FRESH fruit was their non-negotiable. I think I'd need to run another poll to find out why. Don't worry I'm not going to, I'm just thinking aloud here....:)

ie If it's to do with a belief that only fresh is nutritious, then our tinned pineapple will not satisfy, just as our dried raisins will not satisfy, and therefore it's the apple a day planner. But if it's about, say the mouth feel of fresh fruit rather than a handful of raisins, then I can completely see the pineapple would tick that box for them.

The only person who posted at length about it said it was to do with the health of her children, so I'm guessing it was to do with a nutrition belief...

    ponder, ponder, ponder :)

I think I shall offer kitty the choice :D

    Now....
For me, tinned fruit, I would consider as a fruit.... so long as it was in juice and not in syrup.
I would rather have tinned fruit than dried fruit, if I couldn't have fresh fruit
Unless of course the dried fruit was in a fruit cake, because then I would rather have the cake :D:rotfl::rotfl:

Ok.... off to catch up with the rest of the thread ;)

Okay, this is not at all relevant to this thread but...
I JUST MADE PASTA!!!!! By hand, on my own, with organic pasta flour (the only type they had in the shop) and free range eggs (6 for £1 from the layby near work!), how much does that make me a housewife :) We weren't sure how to dry it so are using the clothes airer in the kitchen, it looks ridiculous but cool!

Weezl, testers, lurkers and other hangers on, I salute you!

    Ok... all caught up now.
I dont think the planner should be changed.
We are all different. We all have our likes and dislikes.
We all have to improvise, adapt and overcome situations to accomodate these differences ;)

The peas for the vegan risi e bisi have just finished cooking.....
It looks like an awful lot of peas though :o
By the time the rice ect is added, I think there will be waaaaaaaaaaay more than 4 portions of this... but will wait and see what happens.
I forgot to get the walnuts at Asda tonight... so, my improvisation, in this instance, is to use pumpkin seeds that I have in already. ;)
I will let you know how it turns out. :D

Off to bed now... up earlyish in the morning:)
