I am around this weekend, anything I can be doing- I haven't tried a random recipe in a while! I shall be making these tonight which are neither frugal nor low fat but I am planning to impress! That site is so beautiful but ridiculously against the frugal all natural goodness of cheap family recipes, it is selling a lifestyle of a well stocked kitchen and stand mixer and expensive cupcake cases, that is sooooo my weakness, forget shoes arty, it's food all the way :D
we can go more in that sylistic direction sian (not that I think you were telling me to or saying anything was 'less than' about CFR or anything, just I'd like the site to be as visually yummy as it can be, and I have seen that trend of food blogs myself and wondered if people might want CFR to be a bit prettier.:)

Thing is, I only have DH here, and he always masculinifies the site, cos when I go too pretty he wrinkles his nose...

But then (sadly) most recipe sites do have a female audience, so I have wondered.

Anyway, sian as I know you are a reader of foodie sites I would welcome your thoughts on CFRs aesthetic :)

Also about time on the weekend, thank you for that offer, there is something you'd be great at (just go do ferg's tea tho first)

Hi all, there's something that I'd value lots of thought and opinion on because it affects kitty's roll out significantly.

I wanted to do it on skype as I often think more people say more on there, and are less inhibited.:)

I'm also aware we don't want to seem like a closed group, so I shall post exactly the same message on here to get the opinions and views of all the non-skypers too.

    Howzat?

:DThis is the question, as you all know we are revamping the recipes page as 150 recipes all layed out in one enormous table will cause immediate bounce away from the page. So in line with susan's suggestion, we are building a recipes initial index page which will have a few 'categories' of recipe to narrow your choice:

    see Snacks
    see Breakfasts
    see Lunches
    see Dinners
    see Vegan meals
    see low fat meals
see meals containing butternut squash (actually probably not that one!)
    etc

the killer question is when you have picked your choice, when the list is presented does it still need to have the column sort capability as we have now? ie currently you can sort the recipes page in order of cost, ease, freezes well, vegetarian/vegan etc...

we now would have 8 actual pages for every top level selector and if there are say 6 options we now have 48 recipe- pages if you get my drift. I am not saying I can't churn them out, it's whether they are implicit in people's thoughts on how it will behave and we to work out how long each one takes to generate and would influence the timescale

if we got just one item of data wrong like 109 cals rather than say 119 cals, the correction would mean 48 plus pages to be rebuilt and possibly a day's work each time the data needed updating for whatever reason.

as the site gets bigger and we attempt to accomodate more and more needs this additional build will get bigger each time.

So in a nutshell I'm saying, do we need to be able to sort the recipes AGAIN once we've already sorted them?

I really hope that's clear (or that someone who's good at clarifying geeks like me will come along!)

Looking forward to all your thoughts :)
