As far as I recall, the 1/3 less calories thing ONLY applies if the woman is strictly within the "ideal weight" zones indicated on those horrid doctors' charts, and is due to number of calories needed to support the lower muscle mass such a female will likely have - you can't carry much good muscle and stay under 8 1/2 stone! - and does no significant excercise

A woman who excercises, or even just does a lot of housework and lifting kids etc will need more. A woman with any reasonable muscle development will need more, to avoid ketosis. So I agree with QOS, regarding limiting your involvement in it to a reminder that portion size is important if someone DOES want to watch their energy intake for whatever reason, and think this weight loss stuff is just a sexist blind avenue, I'm afraid. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but it really annoys me...

Of course, I am speaking as someone who, whilst she can out walk/ bike/lift furniture any of her skinny friends, has been clinically obese according to said charts for all her life, so perhaps I'm just biased. i do wish more women would take excercise rather than stopping eating though! Muscle development and weight bearing exercise are just as crucial as calcium in avoiding later life osteoporosis...
hmmmn the planner is probably quite annoying for you then ambersuccubus cos we've gone on average height shirley and average height Bob and given them enough energy to be their ideal weight. So ermmm.... sadly shirl and kitty are being expected to eat 1 3rd less than their men :o

Would you mind saying a bit more about why that's a problem? I'm sure you're not the only one to feel that way, so it's important feedback :)

I guess it's not so much desperate for help, as aware it's the same folk all the time and don't want to burden the regulars.

Also undeniably there is a buy in when someone works on the site, it creates ownership and this leads to people wanting to tell their shirley friends,

So for those reasons, I do like more helpers, yes :)

You should say so on the site then. It's taking off now and having a life of its own separate from this thread - people come to it from all sorts of sources.

This is because although most women require 2/3rds of the calories of their OHs I don't know that many women who serve themselves up 1/3rd less dinner than their partner.

My friends may just be unusual though?
I give myself less than OH but that's because my appetite is smaller so I naturally do it. It did take him a long time to learn to do the same though as he always used to give us the same amount because he thought that was "fair".

I wonder though whether men are really less prone to being overweight than women or whether it is just that women are more bothered about it when they are?

*whispers* It's a bit scary because you're asking us to say what we think we're good at.

I looked it up susan and in 2009 stats, men were 1% more likely to me overweight (53% of women and 54% men IIRC)

That's interesting. According to said charts, I am not far off that, either, but personally I do not feel overweight at all. Besides, I know that most of my bulk is muscle, so the charts don't bother me at all.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask is - do you feel overweight yourself at all, or do you feel there is an issue with the "one size fits all" charting of "ideal weights" and suchlike ? Apologies if the question is too personal, it's just that I'm excited at meeting someone who could be like me !

Hmm, I have to say that in terms of quantity at meals I eat more than DH but I snack less and I probably eat more healthily overall. We weigh the same and are the same height which means we are both overweight but I am more overweight than DH.
