LOL arty:rotfl: It's real life isn't it? doesn't always go how it is on paper
Glad the omelette feels like an easy alternative:T
p'raps we could but a star next to recipes which we think are easier if shirley's had a hard day, that'll be really useful I think
enjoy the pimms

Well i tried the pastry and it was a disaster and i have been doing pastry for *cough* years. It wouldnt roll out i couldnt pick it up so i ended up making my own tried and tested method. Also found cooking the onions for so long was a bit faffy for me so when i do it again i will use raw onions as i have done before then add the egg mixture to the raw pastry and cook.
Thanks for the biccie recipe but as i said it could be me just used to eating more than i should.
Spoke to ex and he would prefer to have tiny tastes of meat most nights rather than 1 hunk once a month and have veggie meals the rest of the time.
He thinks when we meet in London all the other men should be meeting somewhere and gorging on meat meat meat.:rotfl:0 -

I did the bacon and onion pudding for tonight, Shanks, and I found the same with the pastry for that. I think I remember, though - unless I dreamed it - that Weezl said the pastry should be pushed into the basin/tin rather than rolled out - anyway, whatever the source of that particular tip, that's what I ended up doing - tearing little bits off and lining the basin with them, then pushing down over the gaps until the basin was 3/4 lined - a bit like assembling a clay jigsaw puzzle, if that makes any sense. The lid I just put on th worktop and pushed down with my fingers, then peeled it off with a large knife - again, did the trick, and once the pudding was cooked and out of the basin it all appeared seamless. Magic !Spoke to ex and he would prefer to have tiny tastes of meat most nights rather than 1 hunk once a month and have veggie meals the rest of the time.

Nice meat madras, or vindaloo ? DH would be up for that  He asked me the other day "So, we run this planner for a month, and then what happens ?" I say "Well, hopefully we look at the bank account and there's money left in it !" And he says "To go and buy a curry with ?".
Hmmmmm.....
Off to update the list now. Weezl, what have you decided about the different snacky options ? Are you ditching option 1 in favour of scones ? Let me know and I'll update as necessary....
Lesley, you oughta pop round for a coffee and a slice of carrot cake while you're in the area.... Bring Mum too !
ETA: Forgot to say, pudding was nice8/10 from DH, and would rate higher if there was some gravy with. Might treat him to some off-plan gravy next time I serve this as he's being so patient about it all. Served with salady potatoes, which made DD happy - she had her spuds with a poached egg, a cucumber salad, pickled onions, 1/2 tin of baked beans and a slice of bread (the scrg ed of the loaf she demolished earlier in the day) - her standard fare.
I will need to bake some more bread tomorrow ! Only two half-loaves left in freezer, and DD could easily put those away all by herself in the course of the day.0 -
Ok artybear reporting back on the omelette.
Well I have never had butternut squash before, but on the recommendation of a welsh lady who's all malibu and nail varnish, I bought one.
The omelette was scrummy!!!!!!:T:T:T I'd give the meal 10 out of 10-the wedges satisfed my craving for 'junk food' the carrots and squash made it feel much more balanced than the carbonara and it was really easy to make.:beer:
weezl I have already metally rated the recipes and I thought the omelette sounded the easiest and it was simples:T:T:j:j:j-Im off tomorrow so will attempt pastry then.
p.s however there was one small problem-when added the egg to the pan I completely forgot to scramble it in a jug before so had to mix it up whilst frying!! Therefore mine was more of a scromlette than an omelette.:o:o:rotfl::rotfl:
*disclaimer* Im not so rubbish I cant make omelette just shouldnt make dinner after a glass of pimms:D:D
ETA: Both main meals would go down really well with mr arty he's not fussed about having meat with meals-aslong as they are scrummy he's happy. Also as he's normally the cook I just go along with himxxxxxIn art as in love, instinct is enough

Oh but you should. Tastes so much better that way, I think - and even if it doesn't, you just don't care. Not that I'd know :A
I'm not fooling anyone here, am I .... :rotfl:0 -
lol allegra:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I'm such a rubbish speller, which isn't good for a girl doing her post-grad in a essay based subject:eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Um....Weezl I have a problem-I've been invited to my friends for dinner tomorrow night. Am I allowed to go?

em the pastry em em total disaster, it wouldn't go from a liquid to dough in anyway shape or form DS2 said its "mam its goop from ben 10!". So tomorrow going to attempt to make savoury pancakes with said goop. So instead i grabbed a packet of cough cough sausages ahem from the freezer and made them instead
.
But so far so good no one's noticed in the slightest what's happening so its all good.
Just have to remember tonight to soak the peas for risi e bisi.
Thanks for the new recipes going to try and make some scones tonight for tomorrow.0 -

well apart from seeing my nail varnish no-one seemed that enamoured with the cheese balls idea, and ISOM thinks they aren't so nice cold, and you have to deep fry in 500ml oil, which I'm sure introduces more harmful version of the fats... So, on balance, gulp, don't all mutiny, let's go-sconetastic!
Arty I'm loving the scromletteShirley can have those on her list
shanks, eeeeep sorry the pastry was a blighter for you. I think Lesley posted some tips on how to get it rolled out nicely... I'll dig those out. V sorry, forgive me?
xx
