My OH and DS1 like meat in every meal, if they can get away with it including lunch and evening meal. Can be a nightmare, while DS2 likes meat but is quite happy just eating salad and cheese like me. I don't tend to meal plan as such i just have a certain amount of foods in for a variety of meals.

the pate was not as runny as i thought it would be, but after leaving it in the fridge it began to dry out a bit. Like i say my fridge is all a bit iffy anyway so it may have just been me.

Okay will try it with orange herbal tea, pretty we have that in already. thanks again!!

em just looked at the recipe and can't find where it said to put tea in it , very strange.
    Is this the right recipe?

Carrot Cake Makes 32 squares :)

    • 200g sugar
    • 200ml veg oil
    • 4 eggs , lightly beaten
    • 320g grated carrots (about 4 Large)
    • 200g raisins
    • grated zest and juice of 1 large orange
    • 350g self-raising flour
    • 2 tsp garam masala if you have it in, or mixed spice or half cinnamon half nutmeg if you don’t
Zest and juice the orange. Warm the Orange juice in a saucepan and add the raisins to soak in it to plump up. Allow to cool.

Warm oven to gas mark 4.

Blitz all other ingredients together in food processor or mix together in large bowl with a wooden spoon.

Pour into 2 cake tins, papered or greased. Or use fab silicone ones if you have them.

Bake for 45 mins or until Dark golden yellowy brown and springy in the centre to your touch.

cut into 32 squares, 4p per square :):money:

    thanks again

OK I looked at the recipe and thought yuk (note I am used to whole oats made with soya milk, rich and creamy). I don't normally use sugar or salt and oil in porridge! Well anyway I thought i'd try it for the plan and give my feedback even if I couldn't stomach it.

Well I liked it!! I followed the recipe apart from not adding salt, I quartered the recipe, so trying to weigh 2.5g of sugar wasn't easy as it didn't register until 3g on my scales. Could we perhaps put the sugar in teaspoons? The portion was a bit smaller than my usual and I usually add extra milk, so its not as thick and to cool it if I'm in a hurry which I wasn't today. I didn't do this however and had it like it was. I was a very good girl Weezl! I did have fruit before my porridge as usual, to help absorb the iron with me being vegan though. I won't be able to comment on how long it keeps me going, as I didn't finish eating it until 10:50am, as I couldn't get on the pc to get the recipe and we will still be having lunch at our usual time, as I am going out later.

Forgot to say, I didn't like the smell of it cooking, reminded me of chip fat!

hey sandra thanks that's fab :) I feel dubious looking at the ingredients list, but it's really good isn't it? Well, it's not horrid anyway! Heating the oil- yep I agree a bit chip shoppy :(

Thanks too for storing the original savoury bites recipe, I'll be needing that but was in haste to get something to the testers :)

Done a bit of tidying at the usual place so there's much easier (hopefully) finding of recipes etc....

Do let me know if it's still unclear :)

erm.... should that be on the bottom of the recipe, or shall we amend allegras meals list to say it? And if so, Allegra is it clear enough from the monster spreadsheet for you to add the side veg, or is that seeming like a lengthy task-I'm totally happy with you saying 'no' I don't want to overburden anyone :)

I'm happy to do it - probably won't be today though ! But as Frankie said, if we are aiming for total comprehension, it would probably also help if it was stated on actual recipes. Want me to have a look over them all when I'm sorting out the list tomorrow or whenever and give you a shout if I find a recipe that needs to be amended ?

Chicken - I would do it all in one go, yes, although for me this will probably be Sunday afternoon when DH is on his merry way, rather than Saturday. For people having their pie dinner mid-day it would probably have to be Saturday though.

I think I forgot to mention that I did the cottage pies for the freezer yesterday - the quantities split comfortably between two casserol dishes I normally use, so spot on for 4 I'd say. I quality tested it as I was cooking, and I just loved the texture that hot oats gave it - feels a lot meatier than it is, I think !

Regarding Bob's tastes in meat, I suspect strongly that DH is wired along the same lines, only I've been educating him away from it for the last 7 years :o Feel kinda bad now - all these women feeding up their blokes on hunks of flesh, and here's me feeding my big strong man on rabbit food....
