Oh yeah, another thing I forgot - how we are feeling on Day 3 !

Well, still full of beans here :) No, hang on, that's the onions :D

Still loving it, still enthusiastic and pretty darn full, which is definitely A Good Thing. I have been thinking today that only 3 days in and there are already two things at least that I will continue doing once the month is up - one is to bake bread 4 loaves at a time, as it makes life so much easier and stops you running out of bread at the wrong moment, and the other is to actually plan breakfasts and lunches - I only ever did evening meals and winged it on the rest, and the result of that was leftovers that were en route to the freezer and earmarked for another evening meal somehow accidentally falling down my gullet, or even an occasional sneaky visit to Greggs at work. And it all adds up, so planning all three meals is definitely the way to go !

awww kez! your pastry was bad too! Eeeeek. Right I'm going to do some more testing of that one. Am I weighing it right I wonder? My measuring jug for the water is a cheapy asda one... could it be that?

How much water did you add Kezlou, I'll reduce it in the recipe :)

well apart from seeing my nail varnish no-one seemed that enamoured with the cheese balls idea, and ISOM thinks they aren't so nice cold, and you have to deep fry in 500ml oil, which I'm sure introduces more harmful version of the fats... So, on balance, gulp, don't all mutiny, let's go-sconetastic!

Yes, Chief :) I did like the idea though - can we have the recipe anyway, to try out once the month is out ?

Not sure i wrote it down , right i'll have a think of where it is.

No worries i probably put to much in, it was working fine till the water went in.
No matter, have to buy more oil tomorrow as i only had 1/2 litre so will attempt it tomorrow and see what happens. Don't bother changing the recipe yet on my behalf.
I will let you know asap.

I completely agree with allegra though planning all meals and snacks is the way to go. I have actually lost 2lbs this week :rotfl::rotfl:either the plan's working or i've been stood next to the door for too long.

Oh, and Weezl - should I now strike tomato oat biscuits of the list, too, and replace them with Mr Frankie's soup ?

arty when ours is too crispy on top, we cut the slices upside down cos the bottom's often softer. Might that work? Also maybe reduce cooking time slightly. Does landlady have a fan oven? Mine isn't, so if she does, you could also try reducing oven temp slightly, or removing the loaves when the colour is a little less dark this time?

Hope some of that helps and that you get a good result! If it's too far gone I have a lovely tuscan bean stew recipe which uses crusty bread and I'll 'allow' you off plan while you make and enjoy it ;):p

Do you have a proper serrated bread knife, Arty ? That ought to do the trick regardless of how crusty the bread is. Ordinary flat-edged knife will normally not be able to cope with bread. Try cutting at a 45 degree angle, rather than from the top - so the knife first cuts through where the top meets the side, rather than the top of the loaf.

I'm wishing I had gotten a BNS in the shopping b/c that omelette sounds yummy! Need to make some sort of oaty flapjacky biscuits or something tomorrow...

Just a word of caution, but I just threw out green, furry lemon that I bought only last week! So keep an eye on your oranges & lemons, ladies. How are we going to use them up before they go off?

Cooked a single portion of Thrifty Cottage Pie tonight to use up some tinned tomatoes.

Quartered all ingredients easily and just a pinch on chilli and garam masala, veg and potatoes as listed.

Absolutely huge portion, probably ok for Shirley's lot but found it a bit too much for me as an older lady:D, ate meat part but couldn't manage all of potatoes.

Would probably leave out oats next time to reduce portion size as I also had to add extra water, might have cooked it a bit to long though. Wasn't keen on spices so would leave them out too.

Also think it was carrot overload with carrots in recipe and as a veg. Perhaps if Shirl has some spare cash next month she could have cabbage or cauli with it instead.

Would you like me to try it again with out oats and spices.
