    Hi Weezl and everyone!

I've been following the threads pretty much since the start and want to thank you all for all the work you've put in for such a great resource! :T

I've had a good look at the website and think it is great. I've also joined your facebook page (and am trying to figure out who is who without much success :rotfl:)

From your discussions yesterday, I think if I was Shirl (and I could be though I don't have any children) I would be worried about spending all that money if it was then disliked, so I would be trying a few recipes here and there and then building up to it. Which is in actual fact what I will be doing :)

My DH is very much a meat and 2 veg man (like Bob) and can be quite fussy (doesn't 'do' pasta and rice). But, I can make him pretty much anything as long as I serve it with chips, so that is how I introduce new things. It generally works, and he is coming round to the idea that most things taste better homemade.

Although I do cook in the kitchen I have a few tried and tested recipes so am very needy of the 'hand holding' section of the site, when trying new things and have found it very useful. Is there anything that can be used instead of a pudding basin though? Would a small normal pyrex dish work?

I know you weren't putting links into the website yet, but are you going to link to the two threads? It might help the critics if they can see just how much work has been put into the plans?

  • Perhaps this is already on your to-do list Weezl, but just thought I'd flag it in case it's not. (I don't mean this to come across in a nit-picky way though, I just wanted to let you know :))

I was just having a quick look through the website again and was reading the second page of the batch cooking guide. When you hover over sandwiches I think there might be a couple of typos here.

Just had some more of the tangy bean pate, yum :T
Money paid out from Topcashback so far= £105.89 :j
No buying magazines in 2011 Challenge- Number bought to date= 0 :)

BTW, did I ever tell you what the word for "chickpea" is in the dialect of the Dalmatian region of Croatia ? It's "bob". I kid you not.

So, if we dispense with "houmus" and call it instead "chickpea dip" in the same dialect, the titles would be as follows:

    1. Houmus - Bob
    2. Tomato houmus - Pomidori Bob
    3. Red pepper houmus - Paprikaner Bob
    4. Onion houmus - Kapula Bob

On a more serious note, how's about:

    Houmus sandwiches
    Tomato dip sandwiches
    Pepper dip sandwiches
    Onion dip sandwiches.

quick clarifying question for dumb weezlie here,:o:D

when folk are saying shirl doesn't want to spend all that cash at once if it might not work... erm... why is she buying it all at once? like, is a massive monthly shop really normal? (just that I've never done it)

I think it's because there isn't a weekly breakdown of the shopping list onsite, perhaps ?

Before kids we used to shop once a month, if stuff ran out towards the end of the month it ran out we didn't top up, we knew a few people who did it like that. Since having kids though we shop weekly and I don't know anyone who shops monthly now.
If you have any thoughts on welsh-medium schools I'd be very interested

Sorry for the late reply, I had to dash to work and didn't get in until late. The welsh primary near us had an awful reputation, so it wasn't something I even considered, but my concerns would be unless the parents speak and read welsh how would you help with homework and reading books. Someone I work with sends her son to a welsh speaking comp, its some distance so she has now found he has no mates to go out with after school and on weekends. I was also told by an A-level tutor at our local college when he gets kids from welsh comps he puts them in for a dyslexia test and they usually pass giving them extra time in exams, I would presume they pass as they are at a disadvantage writing in English. Just my thoughts though hun, I have no experience of welsh schools, when mine were little I used to corner everyone I met with little ones in primary and grill them on what they thought of their school :D

I have a day off today so i'm hoping to read through later and see what I need to do and start on Sat. If its any help as a newbie my biggest concerns before starting are will the kids eat it without too much fuss and nag where are the crisps etc and will I have time to cook.
