murrell sorry to thrust yet another job your way!

Whaddyaknow about saturated fats in a vegan diet? (I've been prompted by receiving Lesley's data this morning- yay for speedy lesley!:A)

    How do you get yours?

Any probs relating to not having any?

Dummy question, is it only palm oil and coconut oil that are non-animal sources?

PS sorry the nut loaf was bad :(

It was a recipe created by that vegan loaf studio calculator... but I wonder if I didn't allow enough seasoning?

Jenny, lesley and murrell (ie all those who didn't like the loaf!) can any of you think of what might redeem it?

OK, is there anything on the new vegan planner that we suspect might not freeze well?

And what things are a level 3 'skilled' option? Just the breads?

I'm going to do the less nutty nut loaf this evening, so if anyone has suggestions to tweak it, please let me know. I'm a bit nervous since the last one was delicious and this one hasn't had good reports so far...

Cashews are around 10% saturated fat if that's any use.

Only thing I cam suggest for the peanut and kidney bean loaf is to reduce the oats and include a another kind of nut.

When I weighed out the oats it seemed an awful lot, and it made the loaf quite a soft texture when it was cooked.

Don't know what to suggest for herbs etc as I'm not a great user of them.

  • Hi Weezl,

I'm not generally as nutrition-techno as Murrell is but as far as I'm aware the only fats necessary in a diet are the essential fatty acids as all others can be made by the body.

Vegan diets tend to be much lower in fat then an average British diet but some plant foods (nuts, seeds, coconuts, avocados, etc) include saturated fat (albeit in lower levels than in animal based foods) and plenty of others contain unsaturated fats.

    Hope that helps.

Lesley, with regard to the calorie deficit:

    185 pppd lite

BUT, no marmite factored in, so that's an extra 9 cals a day if we add it all in, which we need to for the b12

and they are also buying their piece of fresh fruit daily.

If that was a banana (average 100cals) then we're laughing :)

But if they chose a satsuma, not so good.

but as people keep saying to me:

    A) no-one's going to follow it exactly anyway
    B) we're not a nanny state so we can't say-choose a banana! But we can say, we've calculated your daily need assuming you've bought a calorific fruit like a banana, but if you are dieting or don't need this much energy, feel free to buy satsumas etc.

    How does this all sound...

    Just thinking out loud really!
