I read all about the nettles (not sure what some crazy lady was talking about by mixing it with lard;)) but they looked really good soooo I went for a walk today and found a secret patch that I am going to pick next week:T Mr arty looked dubious but hes used to my crazy ways now!!
Where's the nettle thread? I tried nettles in a stew a few years ago but didn't like it (so OH ate it all for me) but we've got a nettle patch in the garden so it would be good to find some nice recipes for them.

susan I like them in curries, but only the very tender ones, lots of garlic, a bit of butter, spices and fresh coriander :)

Or I did a version of a jamie recipe but subbed the spinach for nettles. It also had chorizo and chick peas in it -very nice :)

Query on the 90 calories shown for Marmalade.

If this for a 20g portion as stated in recipe is very high as there is only 90g of sugar in the whole recipe.

I was referring to this post of Weezl's in the thread started by that poor girl who had literally no money left for food. And Weezl, yes, it was a great suggestion, and I did see the post count :D I was laughing at myself, not you, because I really do have an urge to try it....

Besides, I knew, I just knew, ever since your April Fool lardshake, that you will come up with a way of feeding multitudes with a blok o lard and some thin air.

That thread nearly made me cry though. I was in her shoes once, actually, but I was 18 at the time and in full bloom of health, so it was all a bit of an adventure. I solved it by finding the Hare Krishna temple and volunteering to help with their soup kitchen. I was doing something useful, plus got a massive free meal as a thank you for my efforts :) Not much use to someone not living in Central London and with a mobility problem though, so hooray for the lardy nettles !

There was a thread on OS where the OP had absolutely no money until benefits paid in two weeks – I see Allegra has linked to it now. There is this earlier thread on OS, which seems to be about nettle recipes, though there seems to be quite a lot of chat too.

I am signed off work for another couple of weeks, so hanging around home not doing a lot, other than physio (turned out I had some misaligned vertebrae, so not too serious & just needs some persuasion to get back & stay in place!) So if you have any little jobs that I can help out with I will be happy to do so.

Dad mentioned that he had read an article where it listed what made someone middle class & included eating houmous & I pointed out that it was included on the CFR menu! It then came out that my Mum had told my sister about the site (she lives with OH & two teenagers, though not in financial straits, & spends £100 a week). I am sorry that you have seem to have had some negative feedback, but everyone I have told has been seriously impressed!
