OK It's like a version of the balloon game where you're margaret thatcher and you're in a hot air ballon with Victoria Beckham and Ghandi and you each have to make your case for why you're not chucked out of the balloon or who should be instead... (clear as mud weezl!)

We're a little calorie shy in kitty's planner. I have come up with a few strategies, but need a little extra help.

Celery packs a disappointing 7 cals per 100g and we're currently using 700g of it costing 87p
So I'm proposing we chuck celery out of the hot air ballon!!!

Can anyone find a more calorific equivalent that doesn't break the bank and wouldn't taste weird in the shepherdless pie? :)

Lesley, with regard to the calorie deficit:

    185 pppd lite

BUT, no marmite factored in, so that's an extra 9 cals a day if we add it all in, which we need to for the b12

and they are also buying their piece of fresh fruit daily.

If that was a banana (average 100cals) then we're laughing :)

But if they chose a satsuma, not so good.

but as people keep saying to me:

    A) no-one's going to follow it exactly anyway
    B) we're not a nanny state so we can't say-choose a banana! But we can say, we've calculated your daily need assuming you've bought a calorific fruit like a banana, but if you are dieting or don't need this much energy, feel free to buy satsumas etc.

    How does this all sound...

    Just thinking out loud really!

sounds perfect to me. I hadn't realised that you hadn't added the fruit in as it was a choice between several for them. Wondered why they weren't being bought

no, most people won't follow it exactly, and we have more hungry and less hungry days so it's all going to flex and twang

wasn't a criticism btw about the cal shortage, just thought I would mention it as I had added quite a few cal counts in whilst doing the nutrition, and amended some that look like they were from a previous version of the planner, with a diff ingred on that line that had higher cals, so all my adjustments might have made your calcs come out diff to what you might have been expecting. Phew that was a long sentence!

ah! that might explain the drop in cals of the BNS (I was including the seeds- perhaps you have assumed just the flesh?) Again, not a criticism, just checking we're singing from same hymn sheet!:)

Also, again just checking have you included the oil in the sundried toms jar and the sweet vinegary juice in the pepper jar (eeking out every last calorie here!)

edit: really not trying to sound picky, just desperate for the cals!

    also...

you know we were using our remaining £21 (cos not all months have 31 days) to buy seasonings? Well garlic powder contains 340 cals per 100g, so that's a bit extra...

and the garam masala seems to be a further 320g per 100g :)

wondering also about losing the swede and replacing with more butternut squash?

Grandma247, you made the swede cloddies... d'you think they'd be nice with butternut squash?

    Hi Weezl

I am in some pain, but compared to where it was before I started physio it is amazing! :D

The following still say (based on an original design by NodeThirtyThreeDesigns):

    tangy bean pate
    bean curry
    spanish omelette
    onion and potato soup
    onion tart
    pasta amatriciana
    pasta carbonara
    HM pizza
    green pea soup

The lunch pate still has based on an original design, but not the Node33 bit. The others seem fine, ie:

    breakfast pancakes
    houmous
    nut butter
    bacon & onion pudding
    chicken & onion pie
    roast chicken
    chilli mince
    spicy pea soup
    HM bread
    carrot cake
    marmalade
    mayonnaise
    raisin biscuits
    nut roast
    tomato & olive pudding
    red pepper tart
    shepherdless pie
    BNS tart

I also noticed that the red pepper houmous and bread & ginger loaf link back to recipes rather than test recipes.

If you have another little project for me that’s fine, just let me know! :)

OK my candidate for the balloon game:

    white cabbage, why?

pick me because: I have 27cals per 100g, cost less than celery and have more phytonutrients :)

pick me pick me pick me!
