Aless I've been wracking my brains for something I can add to the calzone that's cheap as onions or thereabouts, so it's not just toms and onion and bechamel... I'm not having any luck
Can you think of anything? I can spare a little celery?

I have never tried the Bombay Bites with kidney beans but see no reason why it shouldn't work. I will try them out on Saturday and let you know how they compare. I have some hot oat cereal so may substitute for the breadcrumbs to get the texture right ( I usually use wholemeal breadcrumbs.)
Thanks for the warm welcome, I feel so much better now I have confessed and de-lurked.
I can't promise to contribute much to this excellent project but the family do like some of Shirley's meals and I love experiments of a culinary and nutritional nature.
We have one golden house rule that states that I must dish up first and allow my menfolk to enjoy their meal before I explain it's nutritional merits. Knowing that it's very good for them and why puts them off allegedly!0 -
Is the asda shopping list above the vegan one? I notice it says sunflower oil instead of vegetable oil. We are using the rapeseed oil for omega 3's aren't we?
I went to asda today to buy some walnuts and cashews. Both unsalted, I hope thats right. When I last made the nut roast I used salted cashews, but noticed the unsalted was the cheapest, so assumed they was the ones.
I notice there not on the list above now though.
Any ideas on how you want me to test the less nutty version and I will see what I can do. Will probably be on Sunday or Tuesday.

I take it Kitty has no olives left ? A couple of garlic-stuffed olives, sliced thinly, would go down a treat in a calzone.
Mind you, I'd eat anything in a calzone. When I have lentil pate that needs using up quickly, it goes in a calzone. And I have some tangy bean pate that I fear might not get used up before it turns - guess where it's gonna go ?
Anyway, bread is out of the oven, and really too hot to eat yet, but that didn't stop either me o !!!!!! - smells divine, and it really is rather tasty. !!!!!! reckons it's "very pleasant", would be nice with HM jam (sorry Kitty, don't mean to rub it in). I'm afraid that, looking at your quantities, I was really very frugal with my ingredients - 1tbsp golden syrup, zest of half an orange, 1tsp garam. Still works though, but perhaps not as cakey as it might be with extra syrup0 -

Well, as !!!!!! will snaffle up a barely 3 out of ten dinner, I'd pop that bread up on a high shelf
Olives are a great suggestion
Allegra as a keen calzone maker, was my description ok, I borrowed heavily from Jamie

So, I am waiting for some dough to rise, I couldn't resist! Have put some raisins in but otherwise is your no knead bread. I think, if you think there is that much golden syrup, I might try slipping a couple of tbsp in the middle of the loaf... Who knows if it will work? I like experiments though
I also asked housie cooking squash to save me some seeds
I have found the facebook page
No red pepper hummus though, 3 out of 4 ain't badGod is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

Brokebuthappy, I'm sorry your savoury bites weren't nice... Murrell likes them but her version has oil not lard, which would make for a softer less dry mouthfeel...
They were crumbly with the lard but my men still ate them. If the plan allows I would rather use oil.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Well, as it's either that or go hungry....I'm ruthless in my pursuit of frugality ! (And it means we can afford pub on Fridays !)

It's great - Jamie knows his stuffI'd just say that I like my calzone thicker, but that's probably just a matter of taste. Anyway, I'm hoping to test yours soon after we return from Croatia !
