Weezl and friends Phase 2 -giving it a whirl for Shirl! Testing meal plan for a month

We would normally use 6 pints of semi skimmed in a week but this includes cereal and hot chocolate as well as tea & cooking. The plan doesn't seem to use much milk so I'm wondering where it goes. I'm also interested in why full fat?
On a positive note I made Risi e Bisi last night & we were all pleasantly surprised. In the pan it looked rather dull, in the mouth it was very nice. I will add it to our menus but add more bacon next time, not being in as dire straits as Shirley.
On a less positive note, I have gained a pound since last week. I blame the carrot cake, HM bread and apple curd for being too delicious.0 -
hi all, the milk was so that shirl could have 3-4 double dunked cups of tea each day. A very small amount is used in cooking (onion tart)
obviously if not a tea drinker, she can lose it all together, buy one more box of ready brek and then do whatever she likes with the rest of the money saved.
Full fat is for:- needing less to go in the tea (people will just use more skimmed milk in tea, they have a colour they like it usually)
- more energy
- no need to reduce fat in the diet, so why buy a more expensive product to do this (more expensive to deliver the same energy/tea milkiness I mean)
does this answer the question?

Hi all, I'm going to upload all the new changes in approximately half an hour.
After that, I'm going to now guage how worth it it is to continue based on whether people feel it is good enough on MSE generally.
As I've said before, all very well a band of a few on a litle read part of the forum working hard, but it needs to see the light of day to be valuable!
We need to see whether people feel it's worth recommending to Shirley.
If people do, it is clearly worth more of my time.
I know I've said this before, but no-one really responded to it, so I wondered if it perhaps hadn't been very clearly worded!

Weezl - I think you're doing something amazing and valuable here, please keep up the good work as much as YOU want and are able to. Everyone who's contributing properly (rather than me who has tried one delicious recipe......) is fantastic too
It's awesome to see all the hard work that you've done on the nutrition and cost aspect of this, and I'd love to see a vegetarian and/or vegan planner as DD and I are Vv and I know I need to improve our diet and save money.
Weezl for PM! xx0 -
thank you kittikins, that's kind of you to say so. I hope I haven't worded it in a way where people feel I need a boost or some thanks (although that was very nice of you to say so
).
I just didn't want it to all go quiet on here and people to not understand why.
I'll see if mse-wide people want to offer it to shirl, and if they do, I will certainly feel it's worth investing more time in.
Hope that's expressed well
And of course thank you to all the testers who have got it to where it is now, and enabled me to keep going thus far

Poohbear, I'm sorry I've neglected to say it before, but all help with batch cooking stuff gratefully recieved. Just not sure where I'm at with it atm, but when I get a grip....
I will send you a pm and then when we are both able tyo we can give it a go.r.a.i.n.b.o.w wrote: »Can I ask the testers - those who followed at least 80% of the plan for a month - did you lose any/much weight? Did you gain any? How much?
Just interested - because weight loss would be a LOVELY side effect from a frugal meal plan for me!
I gained in the first two weeks because it would have been such a waste not to eat all the cake that DS2 didn't want. The last two weeks I lost the weight and have continued losing since:DHi all, I'm going to upload all the new changes in approximately half an hour.

Weezl I do think it is really worthwhile. I have talked to more people here who want to wait until it is finished and give it a go. It seems to be popular with students as well as families. I am recommending it to people who I feel would benefit from it.
There are some who can't be bothered to make the effort but there have always been people like that.
DD and DSIL are going to finish off food in their freezer and then will do a batch cooking day with me when they are both at home as DSIL wants to be very involved in cooking and saving money:D
I hope I didn't give you too many cahnges to make:o I am going to have a look now:Dbusiness mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

I am really tempted to try it out on my family but they do like their eggs, milk, and cheese! They could probably manage without meat as they have done so in the past.
I have just shown DH 'cheap family recipes' and he says it is ideal for a family and he was impressed by all the costings and nutritional information too.
This morning on breakfast TV Ainsley was producing a cheap family meal for just £1.20 per person!! It does annoy me.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

weezl, I have previously linked to your website on my blog but as it's only friends & family, I wouldn't expect the moon.
We could be really tech savvy and spread the word via Facebook - would be very good for the student crowd...
