Don't worry too much about helping Shirley to shop in different places, I feel we've got that covered.

I think what would work well is if you and Allegra can liaise with each other (on here so others can help too) as I see it as being very important that the batch cooking guide fits in with the shopping list.

Kez/Allegra, how do you both feel about that suggestion?

Excellent idea, i won't be on this weekend as were visiting family but i can quite happily work on this next week, if that's all right with you Allegra?
So pleased i don't have to make alternate lists for different shops *sighs of relief*

I will also look at the list of jobs that need and let you know if i can do any.

Allegra: -that batch cooking list looks brill :T:T:T excellent job on that!

Helen105: -rape seed oil is also known as vegetable in most supermarkets. Its just listed under ingredients. HTH

Oh and on Monday, i'll have a go at the batch making stuff, minus the liver pate, as we still have loads in the freezer waiting to be eaten.Hope thats okay Allegra x

Right i'm off to bed , enjoy the weekend all!
  • On the B12 marmite thing:

If you need to use lots of it then its probably good to use it instead of vegetable stock in some recipes. It has a strong savoury flavour that would work instead of stock in something like the nut loaf and maybe gravy.

Also if there are any savoury toast type brekkies planned it might be good to suggest spreading a little marmite onto the toast before adding your topping e.g tomatoes/beans (or stirring the marmite in). But that rather depends on what's for breakfast!

Also it can be had as a hot drink a la bovril

It's now 8 am. Put yeast and sugar in warm water and leave somewhere warm to activate. Swish a bit of boiling water from the kettle into each jar you will be using to store your spreads, , turn the oven on on low (no higher than 100 C). Put the flour for the bread into the biggest non-plastic bowl or pan you can find, pop in the oven to warm briefly. Take out , pour the water out of the jars, pop the jars and the lids in to dry fully (this will sterilise them and make sure your spreads do not go off).

Thought you meant the jars were in the oven as well and then to pour the water into the bread flour.
I know my brain is a bit special but maybe separate these instructions a bit so warming the bread flour is after sterilising the jars! And state how long to leave the water in the jars and the flour in the oven (I never knew you could do this as I always thought flour would explode in a Great Fire of London style disaster). :D

Twinkle d'you remember when we went for pizza? what was your vegan topping?

Have you had any successful vegan calzones with a tomato sauce and a bechamel sauce inside?

    :)

Queen of string (I noticed the site has a canadian visitor so I'm guessing you're still around :))

When you made your breadsticks, did you put marmite on the top or in the dough?

  • I think I had red peppers, red onions and artichoke hearts but whenever I make or go out for pizza I vary the toppings. Most veggies are pretty nice.

I haven't made a calzone since going vegan but I think it would be yum! Might even be nice with a bit of marmite mixed in. :D

I can definitely understand Sandra, and of course you know how hard it is to be vegan this cheaply because you have been looking at it lots longer than me! Thanks for being so nice about it too :)

It looks like I/we have a couple of options:

    • return to the main reason for planner 3, the fresh fruit, and see if there's any other way we can get 1 piece daily into the diet without being vegan (tall order)
    • do as you said and imagine this is being done in the short term and rely on bob and shirley's internal stores, 6 years is a long time! (plan will then be slated as unhealthy)
    • remain vegan, have fresh fruit say every other day, but say, 'if you're doing this for the short term but desperately want the fresh fruit everyday, you'll be ok dropping the extra yeast extract and having 4 more nets of oranges. That way, as it stands it'll still be 'healthy' but they can get more fruit in if they need to :)
    Any thoughts everyone?

I suppose it depends on how often people wanted fresh fruit, I imagine it was daily, but I guess if you had to follow a subsistance diet, every other day might me ok. As you seem to be promoting this as a 80p a day plan now, rather than the £100 for 4 for a month on your website, which I know are the same thing, I think people will just say, well I'll up it to a £1 a day and have a piece of fruit extra.
Also of course not everyone likes yeast extract. Marmite even have 'love it or hate it' in there promotions. I personally don't like it, but will use it in recipes for additional flavour and as a bonus I get the vitamins. I probably would of just missed it out, if OH didn't eat it though. I am willing to try as a gravy, although I don't expect to like it. It won't go to waste if I don't, as it can always go in the next recipe needing stock. I would also try it on other things, as if I don't like it, my dad probably will.

ok, nearly died of maths just then, but I think using sandra and aless's helpful research :A that the family's B12 needs are met by 11 boxes of hot oaty do-dah and 3 jars of marmite.....

Ok, I have some seriously interesting recipes to conjure up :D

We have every faith in you!! I know you have done well so far in getting the instant oats in lots of recipes. It is a ingredient choice in the savoury loafs that can be made from this site. I have liked all the variations I have tried.

Are the breakfasts and lunches pretty much staying the same as planner 1 and the evening meals the test meals/or any new marmitey/oaty recipes that are on your website.
Have we changed from gia garlic to garlic powder now in the recipes? I have just bought some more gia and then noticed all your recipes say powder. I shall go and get some, want to test the recipes as close as I can. The gia wasn't easy to weigh anyway and it will be easier if the powder is by tsps.
