  • Weezl, can I just ask about your bacon and onion pudding....it says steam for 2-3 hours in the slow cooker, is there any other way of doing it if you dont have one? Like steam it on a wire rack above simmering water??

    Thanks, it looks yummy!!

If your pudding is covered correctly, you can steam in a pot...as long as it doesnt run dry :D....
Keep topping up with 250mls of water every so often... so as the pot doestnt run dry :D

    Ok
So we made the burgers earlier and put them in the fridge to solidify (this is what we do with normal burgers) and went to the gym.

In the gym we were invited out for a meal so mr arty decided he would eat out but I declined and said I would have the veggie burgers and then join him.
They made lovely burger shapes and stayed like that whilst cooking:j BUT

I'v just started eating them and this is the one and only recipe I dislike immensely:(-obviously other people have had them and liked them so its my personal taste (before you start apologising weezlie!!) so I'm off to the pub to eat there.:o

I'm really sorry but I'm starving and if I start to make something new now everyone will have gone home by the time I'm done-I know its a cope out and my only excuse is I'm a student and I like the pub:o

I think today I am pleased I'm not Shirley and in debt:A

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Was there too much of something, not enough of something in there arty ??
    :)
It would be good to know... so we dont all make the same mistake ;)

Your parcel will be in the post later today :D...
    Will PM you when :D

They just tasted 'funny':o however we did sort of adapt the measurements as mr arty wanted to make a portion of two thirds rather than half (dont ask me why-he works in mysterious ways:mad::p) so we halved the amount and then added a bit to each amount. I think it was too ready breky. It tasted nice at first but had an odd after taste:(

However I went to the pub and had a normal burger and all is right with the world again!!:j:j

Thanks for letting me know potty-Im excited!!:DXXX

p.s Weezl you have been quiet-hope you are not really illxxxx

  • A query with the scone recipe please. It says hot cereal...does this mean you have to make the cereal (either porridge or ready brek?) up before using it, to the measured requirement, or just the dry oats/flakes? Sorry for the dunce question.

I've just been shopping and am giving some of these a go, albeit nearly a month later than when you started.

I've made them using the required weight of ready brek stuff straight from the box, Freecycle :)

Is this the one you were looking for ISOM?

oaty enriched bread- featuring walnut bread too!

    oaty.jpg?w=500&h=368
1.5 kg bag of plain white bread flour
    allinson’s yeast 16g
    3 tsp salt
    dessertspoon of sugar
125g ‘hot oat cereal’ straight from the pack
    75g walnut pieces
put yeast and sugar into 300ml hand hot water and leave until it forms a nice fat frothy head.
Add this to the dry ingredients (Leaving the walnuts to one side)
add about 2 1/4 pts hand hot water, gradually til you get a slippy dough.
    Mix by hand.
put a quarter of the dough into 3 silicone loaf pans, ie a quarter in each.
Then add the walnuts to the final quarter and mix again. Put this into your 4th loaf pan.
Leave in a warm place to rise for 40 ish mins til dough peeks above the top of the tin.
Bake for 25 mins on gas mark 6, or until browned on top and sounds hollow when tapped with a knuckle.
    Enjoy…

you don't need to make a 4th one nutty if you don't want to ISOM :)

    Hope everyone is OK?

Hoorah for all the fabulous testers, I am reading and noting your helpful points.

I salute you, and I know Bob and Shirl do too :)

Website progressing well, managed to do 6hrs on it today, but really sore neck and throat now.

I think we can get planner one out there in a much clearer format next week :j:j:j

Jenny, would you be willing to write a very short piece for the website explaining how to adapt the planner for one person? ie a real idiot's guide-assume nothing! But please do say 'no' if you're too busy :)

some websites on cooking without waste?
    (definitely a must)

Some websites on how to cook?(simplyfood.co.uk, shows the basic in a very clear way) could also put down the grocery thread on the old style board, for the recipes on there. As well as the complete cooking section.
    what ideas do people have?
