I do a heap of rice then rub in the middle with the serving spoon so that there is a dip to contain the curry and I end up with a nice ring of rice around the edge of the curry. Curry is then ladled into the dip in the middle.

I used to do that ! I dunno why I stopped - probably an attempt at labour saving :rotfl:

Shanks, I've been Allegra online for so long that I just as happily answer to that as to my real name. But yes, putting faces and names to online tags is always a fun, albeit a slightly surreal activity !

I don't know i think it is quite funny myself. Everyone will sort of think of folk by their user name anyway. I know ISOM calls me BOB anyways..very popular name is 'BOB' i notice ;)

Sounds like the testing is going well Weezl. I have tried quite a few of the recipes, but didn't manage to make the month of the whole recipes. I have however kept to a strict budget, barring special occasions and enjoy the challenge of doing so. I think more of the recipes will be creeping in over the next coming months.
Bean curry is a firm fav in this Bob's household :):rotfl:

Anyone who is thinking of having a go should. As my shopping steadily reduces and i can easily get the bill to under £150 and some months less...:money::beer: With food in the cupboards at the end of the month and tasty food at that.:D That has to be good! I know if i have to i can.
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:

U can buy tinned pumpkin in waitrose - it lives by the other tinned fruit. Not every branch seems to carry it, but i've never had huge difficulty in obtaining any. I confess i've never used real pumpkin before!!
    :(
I dont have a Waitrose near me. I think they are trying to open new stores up here, and I believe there is one in Glasgow, but its not anywhere I am near regulary :(.... Back to doing the HM stuff for me ;)

    Answers as above ....
As previously stated, I do quite alot of cooking for my parents from time to time, so I have included what I think they would like too ;).
My dad is much more adventurous than my mum... hence why some stuff is included for them, and some not.... but then he is the cook, so is happy when there is a cooked meal for both of them, that he hasn't had to worry about making :o
I would be up for doing a month planner.... as would the biddies for some of the meals(a day later) as they wouldn't realise what was happening :o;)

Incidentally - and completely inconsequentally - Arty's pics have made me wonder how other people serve their curries, chillies, and other "with rice" meals. I see Art arranges them artistically side by side, but I always place a mound of rice centre plate, topped with a smaller mound of whatever-it-is. What do other people do ?
I am with Arty on the rice and curry/chilli on a plate....
If I have both together, it is side by side :D
To be honest, I prefer rice to be the meal, like the risi e bisi, or risotto.
I prefer bread - either nan/chapatii with a curry, or pitta with chilli :)

I wish I had a chance to read the thread last night before I went to work :(
As I would have been able to help with the apple weighing ... I went to Asda on my break at 3am....... Ah well.... next time eh :o

Arty.. I haven't forgotten about your parcel....
It is sat on my sideboard, waiting to be parcelled up:o
I will try and get it in the post soon :)

    Ok.... bedtime :D
Totally shattered today... was a busy wee night :o

    Morning!

I've been moving my meals around a bit this week, due to assignments needing doing and DH being away from today until Saturday.

So I did Carbonara yesterday and I'm doing Risi e bisi tonight from the freezer.

I also need to bake more bread and another lunch snack..

I did a Tesco online shop the day before yesterday, buying sandwich fillers, drinks etc...but then cancelled it yesterday morning before it was due to be delivered...I just couldn't face the feeling of failure :)
So I'm pushing through till at least the end of the month....;)

I'm glad you said that - I did wonder if everyone would think me a complete weirdo for dishing out in such a detailed way.

I quite regularly call my daughter Pooh Bear in public. (Obviously) it isn't her real name but she's almost always going by a different name to her real one. The most embarrassing was probably going round a supermarket calling her "Monkey".

Results of apple weighing trip to Asda.

All the loose apples I weighed were well over 100g some nearer 200g.

Better option might be bags of apples, weighed and counted apples in following.

Garden Gang Great Stuff Apples - 8 apples, weight 800g £1

    Smart Price Apples - 6 apples, weight 800g 67p

    Cripps Pink Apples - 6 apples, weight 650g £1.97

I think a lot depends on what they have on offer week to week and how much is allowed in the budget for apples.

    My real name is poohbear!:rotfl::rotfl:

Actually my aunt who is 87 sent me an email about a post on another forum. She just said that she presumes I was the poohbear on there. And she was right. I haven't seen her for 6 years but she found me !!!

Rice on plates. I do a strip down each side and the topping in the middle.

Frankie, well done on not giving up. The lunchtime pate has been an amazing success here and DSs and DH are a lot happier with their diet now.

Bad news for me though is that I have gained another 2lbs. Must stop eating cake!!

hi all, wow! that sounds very hopefullots of willing testers-yay!

jenny, I'm very grateful for the shopping info, thanks that's so kind :A
It's a bit sad about the apples, because that's going to cost the Kitty famly quite a bit more than I imagined.:(

but better to know at this stage! I was imagining 8p per apple based on 100g per apple bought loose, but sadly they are all larger apples than that....

I'm wondering about these instead perhaps... but sometimes the piccie on the web shows loads more in a bag than you can find in store...:
