Weezl and friends Phase 2 -giving it a whirl for Shirl! Testing meal plan for a month
Comments

I just had mine. Very filling - definitely something to anchor you after a heavy day ! Taste-wise, it was okay - and there is nothing wrong with that, I do plenty of "okay" frugal meals as fillers in between the nicer ones - but while I'll be happy to eat up the rest of the batch made for the test month, this is not one I'll be taking into the post-Shirley era, either. It's the baked beans, really - I'm not keen on them at the best of times, and they didn't really acquit themselves all too well in this dish, either.
I will, however, use the dish as an inspiration for something similarly frugal - perhaps pinto or canellini beans in a curry with red kidneys - or a bean and potato curry, perhaps
Incidentally - and completely inconsequentally - Arty's pics have made me wonder how other people serve their curries, chillies, and other "with rice" meals. I see Art arranges them artistically side by side, but I always place a mound of rice centre plate, topped with a smaller mound of whatever-it-is. What do other people do ?0 -

I like the doing stuff together as there is a lot of support but understand that real life gets in the way also prob a bit more difficult to persuade some members of family to try. I was actually surprised that ex was willing to try as many as he said yes to. However he is not prepared to do a planner but will try some meals throughout the following weeks.
Allegra i do the same as you. Arty looks good shame is didnt seem as tasty as picture0 -
I'm thinking I probably don't need testers for the whole of the 2nd and 3rd months as I think the glitches will be visible from this month's trial, (like the fresh veg!)
So I wondered if I could post some recipe titles and people could post if they fancy trying them?

They sound lovely weezl
Allegra Mr arty puts chilli/curry on top of rice but I dont really like food touching so I have them parallel to each other:o. I have made another batch of curry for tomorrow night as I am working late so will happily eat it again just probably choose not to make it again. It tasted of curried backed beans which was a bit odd.

These sound good. Look forward to seeing the recipes. Will not be around (as in off and on here during the day) over the next 2-3 weeks, as real life is going to get in the way. I am subscribed to the thread, so will catch up every morning and pop on when I can. If there is any vegan info you need help with, I will reply as soon as practical, but won't necessarily be as quick as usual and could be a day late.

BTW, I think there's definitely value in people "living the plan" for a month, but realistically, I think life is gonna be a fair bit easier for me if I just test things out on a on/off basis, alternating them with more of our usuals. I am happy to test out any recipes that don't contain cauliflower - so saag aloo gobi is out at first glance. I am not keen on nut roast either - find them too dry generally - but will reserve judgement until I look the recipe over in more detail. Many of the things on the list we already eat, either regularly or on occasion, so happy to test out you versions.0

I reckon it must be our Bob they're referring to in the email.
Like Arty I do the lining up side by side thing. I just think it looks prettier that way. If we're not being Bob and Shirley we would have a third stripe too with some salad.
We had a change of plan tonight. Somehow I just couldn't fancy the curry, so we had chilli instead (double portion made, spare safely stashed in freezer). I think that's something Shirley will like - because the whole month worth's meals are on the planner, if she doesn't want to make something on a particular day for whatever reason, she can see at a glance what she can swap around.
Lots of things on plan 2 and 3 sound delicious. I'm happy to carry on testing as often as I can. What's happened to the chickpea crumble?0 -
