freecycle rant

I have been put off Freecycle by all the negative stuff I've read, even before this thread. It seems quite a lot of hassle. I really hate sending decent stuff to the tip, so most of ours goes to friends or charity shops, but I can't be doing with scammers either.
When my school used to do Car Boot sales we would regularly get other stall holders going round early on, buying stuff and stashing it away to resell. I had a huge pile of my read but pristine, as-new paperbacks on the school stall - only 20p each. One guy offered to buy them all at 5p each to take them off my hands....yeah right. I took home the ones I didn't sell and sent them to the charity shop.0 -
I'm really supportive of freegle, it's a really positive thing.
I'm very grateful to all those people who gave me things when me and my boyfriend first moved in together, I'm very proud of the 70s sideboard I spent hours sanding and repainting which now looks like an expensive modern piece of furniture and I've helped out a lot of people with the things I no longer need.
There was the one irritating person who, once I'd given them one thing, just turned up on my doorstep everytime I listed something - no email or anything!
I enjoy reading through the wierd and wonderful posts, some of my favourites have been - e.g. OFFER: 40 inch canvas print of Paul Ross (who on earth has one of those?!?!) or WANTED: Life size Freddie Mercury cardboard cut out, moustache preferred, ideally from the live aid era. Please note Paul Rogers cut outs are COMPLETELY unacceptable!

There you go, Alliballi.

The thing is dear everybody on this thread is too busy having a whinge to bother about actually helping anybody.
My answer is if you don't like the idea of recycling your unwanted goods then why not sling 'em in the bin?
Ah thanks for that, sorry to impatient me lolIf you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)
Everyone is entitled to an opinion whether you think its right or wrong, courtesy costs nothing :cool:0 -
a couple of years ago I used to use Freecycle a lot (have given lots away, and received quite a bit as well..the most excited was 50 bags of manure which I really wanted , but I am strange person..:rotfl:)
I got fed up with the I'll take etc so stopped using it..A couple of weeks ago I tried again as we had a lot of items filling the garage up, and wanted to get rid of patio set, old kids bikes, outdoor slides etc
I got a very mixed set of results, with people wanting us to deliver, lots just saying I'll take ring this (mobile) number..a few no shows..
About 1/2 the stuff went and then I pulled the ads as it was hard work. There were a couple of lovely people on there, who were pleased with the items, but it proved a lot of hassle, ..so still have the slide/ see-saw and a compost bin left, and will ask around kids school if anyone wants instead:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I can come now - take it off your hands - give me your details and I'll have all - I could go on! How do I weedle out the good freecyclers. Is there any way I can search to see if they are giving or just asking for everything. If you can help, please let me know. I feel like taking everything else to the charity shops!
Yes you cn, just do a search on their name, to see how many posts wanted's or offers they have.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Wondered if anyone had a kayak knocking around that they don't use any more and wanted rid of. Have had no joy finding one nearby on eBay.
I can see several nearby. But they are over £200. Shall I point her in the right direction?0 -

Ive done that before, and replied via group when someone asked for a raleigh chopper pointing them towards ones on ebay and adding how collectible they were0 -
Dreading freecycle, have a huge tely that might be going on there unless my mom wants it. Did try putting it in the local ads for £30 (this was bought for about £500ish in 2005!) and still no joy! Problem is it's a very heavy large backed one and not a flatscreen. Think I might give ebay a try on a 99p listing instead, rather than have the vultures go ape on me the minute I put it on there....Do good deeds and you could raise the curtain, do good deeds and you could really raise your life....0
