freecycle rant

Someone on my local wanted a leather sofa for her daughter's new playroom this week - preferably in a dark colour.
And another wanted a cream suite because he has decorated and his old suite doesn't go with his new colour scheme! I might tell him I have one, and see what he says when I offer to do a swap.
I've offered loads of stuff but find that people rarely say please or thank you. I had a huge list of stuff on there one time and some bloke sent me an email that said simply, "I'll take the lot".
I'm a bit disheartened with it now.0 -
Some of the wanted ads are a bit breathtaking. I don't reply to wanted ads any more because I've been ignored or told what I'm offering isn't good enough once too often.
I do give stuff away, though, and people have always been great. But I do search their user names, and I give prority to people with a history of giving themselves.import this0 -
It seems to be life in general, people have forgotten how to say please and thank you (not everyone, obviously!). We've put quite a lot of stuff on freecycle, but to be honest, I just ignore requests that don't include a please, or the 'I'll take it' responses. We've met some really nice people through freecycle, and most seem to be genuinely grateful.0

im sick of hearing about all the poverty lines especially when people are asking for items they want but dont actually need
I understand the concepts of cooking and cleaning
........ I Just dont understand how they apply to me!0 -
my local freeshare is getting ludicrous. more than 50% are now wanted ads, and it's often high-value goods that they're after too, or specifics such as "wanted: gaming PC for internet gaming" or "wanted: washing machine, table and chairs, fridge, and bunkbeds".

Totally agree...I wouldnt expect somebody to giving away good quality high value goods. When I offered a desk once...good condition, perfectly usable but a pretty basic one that was a fairly cheap self-assembly one...a guy who expressed an iterest then turned it down when he realied it wasn't solid wood and said he 'didnt want just any old tat'I've pretty much given up replying to offers for things as I've NEVER ever had a reply despite always asking politely and offering to collect at their convenience.
I do try and reply to people who I don't offer it to but in some cases I've been inundated with replies and simply don't have time to go through all of them. But if that's the case I make a point of always posting as 'Taken' and thank everybody who expressed an interest0 -
I joined freecycle for Glasgow area bit cant see any ads what am i doing wrong??If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)
Everyone is entitled to an opinion whether you think its right or wrong, courtesy costs nothing :cool:0 -
I give our old stuff to charities, but even that has been problematic. The Salvation Army turned up to collect two very good sofas that were awaiting them on our drive and refused them because they were too big for the van, despite having been given measurements. It then started raining and they were spoilt and no good to pass on to anyone else.
I waited in two full days for the BHF to collect unwanted wardrobes and then had to leave them in our old house for the new owners to dispose of.
Our new house had been dressed with a few bits of brand new furniture, including a set of table and chairs from Argos, value around £200. I arranged for a charity to collect them to sell in their shop, which I pass every day. They never appeared in the shop. I suppose they may have had a prospective customer in mind, but I was a bit suspicious.0 -
What annoys me about it is there is so many people posting such things as :
Wanted: Newish Ipod for my holiday
Wanted: Working laptop - must be ............. (then goes into specifics on ram etc).
Wanted: I need a computer for my nan it must be................. etc :ll
What annoys me the most is.. they don't just post it once.
I mean freecycle is great, we've recieved some much needed items from freecycle - a washing machine and a fridge, two things that we certainly couldn't afford and we've even made business contacts and friends through freecycle which is great. But theres too many people who spoil it.0 -
