I agree it can be really disheartening, I just cleared out a massive binliner of good quality clothes for a 12-18mth boy, I was going to send them to the charity shop but then though I know I'll put them on freecycle for someone who can't prehaps afford to buy them.
I got messed about by three different people not picking up then the forth one finally turned up bearly said a word to me went off with these clothes then within an hour put a wanted up for newborn to 12mths clothes and girls 18-24mths clothes...made me seriously wonder about it all!
As for thankyou emails I think I've had about three in two years...guts you sometimes

I've only ever had really nice people picking up the things I've listed...but then I'm a total nazi about weeding out the replies I get. I discard the replies which are:
- Lacking in any form of please or thank you
- Badly written
- Long, rambling sob stories
- Rude or off-hand

There you go, Alliballi.

The thing is dear everybody on this thread is too busy having a whinge to bother about actually helping anybody.
My answer is if you don't like the idea of recycling your unwanted goods then why not sling 'em in the bin?0 -
We have given loads of things away on there, you get to know the stragglers, we have one person asks for everything and anything, no matter what you offer, I am sure they just go around saying "I'll have that", ready for his market stall on a Saturday.
We tend to systematically go through all the replies and filter out the ones that forgot please or thank you, from there we choose depending on who it is and what it is for, if they give no specific reason, it too gets filtered out, until we are down to one or two polite posts, who have a valid need for it.
There have been a few times things have been offered that we have asked for and not received, luck of the draw I guess. But we have also been lucky enough to get one or two items from people on there.
So I am never disheartened at not receiving things, hopefully someone more deserving than me has got them.
Ive had some ask for an item (a lawnmower once), after winning the item they then ask us to deliver it to them, they quickly get scrubbed, as I think if ever I ask for an item and its offered, the very least I could do, is pick it up, if for any reason that wont be possible, I wouldn't ask.
The saddest case I remember was someone asking for an A-Z book, As I had a couple lying around I offered her one. along with an A-Z CD ROM. She turned up on the expected evening, at around 10pm, having got completely lost, and getting off the wrong train station to get here. All that trouble for a book you can pick up for a couple of quid at any newsagent, I felt sorry for her.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

a couple of years ago I used to use Freecycle a lot (have given lots away, and received quite a bit as well..the most excited was 50 bags of manure which I really wanted , but I am strange person..:rotfl:)
I got fed up with the I'll take etc so stopped using it..A couple of weeks ago I tried again as we had a lot of items filling the garage up, and wanted to get rid of patio set, old kids bikes, outdoor slides etc
I got a very mixed set of results, with people wanting us to deliver, lots just saying I'll take ring this (mobile) number..a few no shows..
About 1/2 the stuff went and then I pulled the ads as it was hard work. There were a couple of lovely people on there, who were pleased with the items, but it proved a lot of hassle, ..so still have the slide/ see-saw and a compost bin left, and will ask around kids school if anyone wants instead0 -
I am new to the freecycling thing and having emptied some of my garage am a little shocked with how people respond, enquiring about the items. I can come now - take it off your hands - give me your details and I'll have all - I could go on! How do I weedle out the good freecyclers. Is there any way I can search to see if they are giving or just asking for everything. If you can help, please let me know. I feel like taking everything else to the charity shops! If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.0

Have just replied to this and my reply has gone.
I have only ever given away stuff, never got anything myself. Got rid of a Braun hand blender and an Epson printer which needed some attention.
Both people were nice and came and collected the items promptly.
I have never managed to get anything myself. I asked for a Wheelbarrow once, as we needed one for some extensive garden work, but never managed to find one.
Haven't used Freecycle for ages, as I was shocked by what some people ask for.
P.S. Anyone got an Ipod Touch. MUST be 64GB version and brand new. Can collect straight away. :rotfl:
My first reply has suddenly reappeared, so I've had to delete it.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090
