October 2011 brides

Options
Well I've seen several other months from next year mentioned but surely I can't be the only one in October! Would love to hear who else is getting married then and how your plans are going....though I'm a little worried it may start me panicking
I'm getting married on the 15th at Chester Zoo. Sadly couldnt afford exclusive hire so have got the Boardroom and am praying for decent weather so we don't all end up herded into the public restaurant area. In the evening I'm hoping to have a party at my son's football club - can get the room free or minimal cost, and the lady who does buffets does the most amazing spreads at really good prices. We're on a reasonably tight budget but the more I read things on here the more I realise there's things I havent thought of that will cost money.
At the moment I'm starting to get well into thinking about dresses and am determined not to spend big but it's SOOOOOO tempting when looking at some of the gorgeous creations out there. But for now I'm torn between 3 colours for my dress and think it'll be a while before I even make my mind up on that. Am starting to think the time will fly and I'm going to be hopelessly disorganised.
So how are other October 2011 brides coping?

  • Hi ellay - I too am an October 2011 bride. Got engaged this time last year and the time has flown by already! We are getting married on the 9th October in a restored barn which is in the middle of nowhere surrounded by fields.

Chester Zoo sounds nice and different - hopefully the weather will be nice but I'm sure if it's not you will still have a fab day! Autumn time is such a lovely time of year.

We seem to be quite organised so far (I think) - booked venue, caterers, chosen provisional menu, photographer, wedding insurance, provisionally booked registrar (can only confirm 12 months in advance) and have possibly chosen the colour scheme. We have sent out save the date cards and have put together a list of everything we think we are going to need and set the budget. Oh - luckily my mum is making the cake for us too so that will be a bit of a saving for us :-)

Have only been looking at dresses on the internet so far - probably start looking probably and trying things on towards the end of the summer. Considering maybe taking a risk on Landy Bridal - read quite a bit on here and they seem really good. Also looked at https://www.milanoo.com for bridesmaid dresses as they seem quite reasonable and have a good range - a friend of mine bought from there and she is really pleased.

Would love to hear more from everybody! We can't be the only 2?!?!

    oh god now you're scaring me...I wish I hadn't asked lol :(

We've only booked venue and registrar (provisional same as you)...hadn't even thought of 'save the date' cards but only having small number of guests and have already told most of them.
Colour scheme is OK cos I just totally am in love with purple so there was no question about going with that.
Dresses are my main thing at the moment that I cant stop looking at online or in almost every shop I go past.
    Fun innit :rotfl:

Giving this a nudge to see if there's any other October 2011 brides out there
  • Hi Girls

I am getting married on 8th Oct at a hotel so far I've booked venue which includes ceremony, wedding breakfast, drinks, buffet and dj.

I bought my dress this weekend - it is literally the first one I ordered and it fits perfect and I love it!

Currently looking for some flat shoes and Im fairly tall and the dress is only just the right length but at least Ill be comfy!

Really cant decide a colour for bridesmaid - looking for long dresses, cant be strapless for less then £75 and it's proving to be tricky!

Also want a singer for during our wedding breakfast and our first dance but they are expensive too!

Didn't even know you could provisionally book the registrar Im going to look into that now.

Im another October 2011 bride :j ours is the 15th, so far i have booked the registra, i thought you could only do it a year in advance but she said 2, we have to go and give our notice within a month of 15th october 2010 or we loose the date, it is a good job i rang up to enquire to coz all they had left was 12.30!
I have booked the venue, we are having it all in the same place so that includes the ceremony, 3 course meal, drinks, buffet on the evening and their resident DJ.

I think im just having the one bridesmaid my oh's sister (i could do without tho) and then i am having my daughter who will be 3 as flower girl and my son who will be 5 as pageboy. I dont really see the point in having loads of bridesmaids its just an extra expense to me.

I've looked at a few photographers but not had any meetings with them yet, looked at dresses on the net, im considering Landy Bridal to, keep hearing mixed reviews though.

I cant make my mind up about colours, our room is duck egg blue and gold? x

    Hi Girls

Didn't even know you could provisionally book the registrar Im going to look into that now.

Get in there quick! I also found they had limited slots left and I booked it a few months ago

I've now got hopes of a photographer as a work colleague is a photographer and while he doesn't usually do weddings I know his work is great. And I'm now almost certainly going to wear purple. I only want something fairly simple (and cheap!!) so am looking at bridesmaid dresses for me to wear. I did worry about accommodating a 17yr old bridesmaid also in colour but she wants a short dress which makes it easier for me :T
    Now to start saving......
  • Book the registrar today got the slot I wanted too at 3pm! That's a relief!

Book an appointment with a photographer too and also chosen my shoes - really pleased with my progress so far

How long before should I send 'Save the dates'?

Flowers? Hair?? nope - can't see them getting thought about til next year at least
What date are you getting married???

Tickled pink - I didnt really send any as such, just threw strategic mentions by e-mail or facebook. (Did actually tell our mums properly though lol) I think some people do it as soon as they know the date. Must admit I can't buy into a lot of the 'must do's'...most of them didnt exist when I got married first time around, no 'save the dates' no wedding favours, and everything worked fine then (apart from the fact we ended in divorce 10 years later of course!)

Can't say I'm an October 2011 bride but I am the groom of one :) We're getting married 9/10/11 :)

So far we've done the grand total of booking the venue and registrar, and my MSE-found bride (Lazymoo!) has been looking at dresses. That's about it! We know what colours we want for things - other than that, we've not really done anything else. So ellay don't worry if you've only done that as that's all we've done too!

    Exciting times :)
