El, you ask what do I think about people always thinking positive. Good question this one. Someone said (and I have seen this saying on someone’s signature) that thinking positively might not solve our problems but it can annoy so many people that it is worth it. On a more serious note, I think that:
1) To some people positive thinking comes naturally, others have to work hard at it;
2) I would much rather be around people who think positive than around people who moan all the time;
3) Being positive does not mean that one has to be chirpy like a canary all the time;
4) Being positive is not a state – it is a process (check the Laws of the Universe above)
5) It seems that thinking positive and feeling positive really brings positive things into one’s life (as inside so outside).
I will be very interested to hear what do you think about this. And how is the running going?

Like Woowoo, I will probably lurk as I am afraid that I will have nothing positive to add at the moment. I will say though that my belief has always been that if you can find the positive in a situation then the world opens up many more opportunities. Now where this belief came from I have no idea as none of my family have this attitude. Likewise my closest friends live their life in crises. I believe that it is a case that you get the life you deserve. Now I am not saying by any means that people who are struggling are not having to deal with real difficulties but I do believe that sometimes people get so bogged down in the mire that they will never climb out of the pit. MG is a perfect example of somebody who lives her life in a positive fashion and she has been a true inspiration to many.
Thank you for your comments and I do miss Scrooge, yet I only knew her (him?) for such a short space of time. I was touched by the kindness and insights. I hope that s/he is doing fine.
Cheri, again please write. Also I do envy you a bit since you seem to be one of the people to whom being positive comes naturally. I, on the other hand, have to work really hard at it - but what I have noticed is that it is like the Sisyphus stone except that one can push it to the top; after that is strarts moving on its own.

Mistresses was filmed a few miles away from where I live!
I have read the book the 7 Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra many times and always intend to try the techniques but without realising I just slip back to normal live, living without really thinking!
Someone lent me The Monk who sold his Ferrari, a high flyer that finds spirituality, couldn't finish it though as I hated the guy lol!
I really should try The Secret.
My sister recently joined a Methodist church as she wanted to get away from reacting negatively all the time and it does seem to be working for her. Sometimes I wish I had a strong faith, but in reality I don't know what I believe anymore. I think the most important lesson in life though is to be kind to one another.LBM Aug 09: £18,650.47 - Current: £12,854.93 (£5946.79)

Thanks Firewalker, I think that you are right I am naturally positive. Although I did have a period of time not too long ago when I was really down and could not work out what was wrong with me. I realised that I was surrounded by people who were negative all of the time and it had started to weigh me down. I made a conscious decision to remove myself from the situation because I could see that I was being drawn into that frame of thinking. My life became heavy and so this would link with the "as inside so outside" So I think that, even if a person is naturally inclined to positivity, there are times that we all have to work at it.
Woowoo, I have read the Monk book and smiled because I understand what you meant about the man. If you read The Art of Happiness by Dalai Llama then you will find that the Monk book is a simpler version. I often read the Dalail Llama book and have given it as a gift on many occasions. It is good to question faith. I am not a religious person but I believe strongly in morality and you are so right that the important thing in life is to treat others as you would hope to be treated. I do not think that you need to be a follower of any particular religion to live your life in this way.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Thanks for the recommendation cherisong, perhaps I will have to treat myself to both books!
Have you read The Secret? I know they are different books but if I was to only buy one, which would you go for?

Cherisong, I too love The Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. It was that book that led me to Buddhism and has helped me a lot.
But now I don't even want to accumulate success, wealth etc... I aim to be content with how things are. Not that I want to live in poverty or anything, but I don't want "stuff" for the sake of it.Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

i think you are very correct ... positive thinking is a wonderful thing ... i much prefer spending my time with positive people they have a lovely energy about them... i try to be as positive in my life as i can ...
but i do worry about people ( and i have met them) that seem to be oh i dont really know the right word for it to be honest ( not very good with my words... please bear with me) i have found people that have been so positive that they struggle with life ... things happen to them really bad things and in trying to be so positive they seem to block things out ... and i have noticed that it comes back to bite them on the bum and can lead to serious mental health issues ....and that worries me ... especially with the new "trend" of spirituality light workers positive psychology movements on the go at the moment0 -
Nuala, that is exactly how I feel. I have never been a person for material wealth and my current debt situation was not accumulated due to spending on material things, rather a particularly difficult situation when selling a property and moving on. I am living the life I always dreamed of, or rather as close to it as I could hope for. Just a few more things to put in place (including giving up a very successful career which I am no longer excited by). Happiness is really not bought it is about stopping and taking notice of all that is around you and appreciating it for what it is.
Firewalker I wonder which of the seven laws this fits, I will go back over your post and review it. I think I may need to buy this book.
Thank you it has been a while since I have had the opportunity to think this deeply and have these kind of discussions with anybody other than OH. It is so refreshing.
