He is back - arrived at about 8 p.m. Fifteen minutes later we had an argument - OH announced that we are coming back to the UK tomorrow and that he is really fed up with us. He does not realise that this is the nature of our love.

We had great fun today – and a perfect opportunity to convince Little Boy that the best time in life is probably free. Sofia has several really large parks and we are lucky enough to live walking distance from one of them. Just have to go around the absolutely enormous American Embassy, walk for about 15 minutes and we are there. Of course the park is full of tacky entertainment for children – loads of rides that to a grown up look horrid but are irresistible to a littlie. Tonight, Little Boy did not want any rides – he realised that they are a bit babyish for him and we played badminton all evening. On the way back we had a little discussion about ‘having good time’ and the reason why it is best when it is free. There is something in the togetherness and planning and playing that paying for loads of rides simply cannot compete with.

Today we crossed another line in our technical evolution and got our wireless network working – now I don’t have to negotiate access to the computer with OH and Little Boy and can do the research for the book in my own time.

Walking around the fruit and vegetables market today I passed a bookshop. In Sofia bookshops are everywhere and in fact there are three really large bookshops in a 200 m radius from the apartment. If you ask me to create an image of Sofia I will say ‘bookshops’ and ‘fashion shops’. Luckily I can still shop in one of those and guess in which case the fit between me and the product is impossible? Anyhow, I looked around the bookshop and there is a book entitled ‘The Meta Secret’ by Mel Gill. It claims to be expanding on The Secret – if The Secret focused only on one of the laws of the Universe (the law of attraction) The Meta Secret reputedly focuses on seven. It is expensive – but I searched the Web and it does not look like it is out in English yet. Might end up buying it after all.

While his mother was productively involved in contemplating the occult and the Universe, Little Boy was busy explaining to me the beginning of the Universe and the Big Bang. Each to their own, I say.

And the saying for today is:

“I don’t believe in the afterlife, although I am bringing a change of underwear.” – Woody Allen but really any Bulgarian could have said that.

Another lovely day! In the morning I went back to the bookshop and bought The Mega Secret – will start reading it before bed. Part of me is seriously curious and part of me can’t believe that I am getting so deep in metaphysics. I have always been a rationalist and a critic realist; logic is my God and reason is my religion. The extent to which I used to discuss the Universe this was done either from philosophical (is it finite or not) or physics point of view. And here I am, reading book after book about things metaphysical, sending wishes to the Universe and getting bus after bus (it is working here as well, you know).

After that played a bit of table tennis with Little Boy and OH and then came back in and did some work. I would love to write full time – it is such civilised lifestyle where I learn loads (one of my favourite pass times) and think and play with words and produce. Managed to sketch Chapter 1 of the book – there is more work to be done but certainly progress was made. Send the plan to my co-author to see what he thinks.

And in the evening we went out with very good and very old friends – or at least he is. I met this friend when I arrived in Manchester so many years ago – he is Bulgarian who was doing his PhD there and he found me. We became very close and later OH became friends with him as well. It was great – nice wine, nice food, nice to catch up. I was particularly pleased that OH had someone to talk to – he does not speak the language and is a bit short of company.

Now it is late so The Mega Secret and bed. But before that, the saying for today is:

“It is much more fun to produce than to consume.” - Firewalker

Today was another hot day in Sofia but we had an entertainment break-through. Here there are table tennis tables on each playground and there are playgrounds roughly every 150 meters. But they don’t have nets. When I think about it, it makes sense – the nets will get damaged outside and cannot be changed all the time. Deduction said that there will have to be a place selling sets including nets – and true enough we found one in the second shop we asked. This means hours of entertainment and enjoyment for the whole family – we all like playing. Wish we were so lucky finding a swimming pool – OH found some on the internet and they were all associated with one or other criminal group – these things are easy to trace nowadays.

I spent most of today reading my new book, running, doing circuits and playing table tennis. Now the book...The Meta Secret.

The main argument in the book, as I understand it till now, is that while the law of attraction is certainly one of the laws of the Universe there are six further laws. In fact, the author argues that using only the law of attraction is like ordering only a starter – the whole thing is about much more. Apparently the first law of the Universe claims that ‘all is mind: the Universe is mentality’. This law, in reality paves the way for the law of attraction and is supported by it – its most clear implication is that our minds create our reality. There are several other implications though: we are all connected and we treasure the feeling of togetherness; we are all equal since we are all subjected to the same forces; we are separate and part of the whole; we continuously create and continuously change – so better take responsibility for the change and what happens to us; there is unity between the mind and the physical – the mind should be used to comprehend the physical rather than block it out; and it is our mission to get to the essence of our being – understand what we are and not mistake it for what we do.

And this is as far as I got today. I am not certain that any one else is interested in all that but will probably continue introducing some of what I am reading. There are two reasons for that: first, it helps me really understand it, and second I find that some of this is useful to dispel some of my reservations regarding The Secret. And one can’t argue with the power of the human mind (and determination).

And the saying for today is:

“As for me all I know is that I know nothing.” - Socrates

  • Hello Firewalker!

I am so enjoying your thread! Please keep passing on your wonderfully clear summarising of the Meta/Mega Secret, it is very interesting and will give something to think about chunk by chunk. And thank you for sharing it with us.

I feel for you in the heat... here in temperate Scotland I find the summers bearable but would wilt elsewhere! That is such a good idea to have table tennis available in public parks. I hope you, Little Boy and your OH continue to enjoy your time in Sofia.

    Hi Firewalker,

Just popped out of lurkdom to say thank you for the thread. I too am intrigued with the fact that I am being drawn into all of the talk of the "The Secret" I read, with interest, your post above regarding the Mega Secret. I am interested in the theory of there being unity between the mind and the physical. I have always felt this to be the case. I will continue to read with interest.

Shall do GQ - in fact I have already read three more laws which will be ready by tonight. As much I would have loved to shared them now have to get back to my writing.

I love Scotland - it is such a glorious place. Temperaturewise, Manchester is not too bad - most people think that love kept me in the UK but actually it is the weather.:rotfl:

Hi Cheri and glad that you wrote - you were mentioned in the last post by Scrooge and I have to say I agree with her assessment.

Interestingly, the first law of the Universe that I discussed last night is not simply about the unity of the mind and the physical but about the supremacy of the mind. I am not certain how does this work with the natural world but in the social world it is spot on - we live in the social structures that were conceived long ago. Imaging, for instance, what our world would have looked like if the dominant economic theries of the 19th century did not measure success by profit, but let say sustainability?

My last post presented the first law of the Universe, namely the law of mentality. Today will discuss the next three laws. First is the second law of the Universe or the law of correspondence. But before that need to mention that all laws of the Universe, according to Mel Gill, work on three different levels: spiritual, mind and physical.

The law of correspondence is expressed by the Masonic saying “as above so below” which can also be rephrased as “as inside so outside”. The main implication of this law is that to change our physical world is possible only if we start changing our spiritual and mind worlds. In other words to change the physical we have to change the way we think and the way we feel. In this sense, life is what we make it – if we are nice on the inside nice things will be on the outside; if we are generous the Universe will be generous in return. We reap what we sow. One important implication of this law is that problems are not attributes of the physical but the mental and the spiritual; in other words problems are inside rather than outside us.

The third law of the Universe is the law of vibration. It postulates that nothing is static and everything vibrates. But different levels vibrate at different frequencies: the spiritual is at the highest frequency, the mental is at lower frequency and the physical is at the lowest frequency. These vibrations can also be seen as energy and emotions – each vibration attracts vibrations of similar frequency. Negative emotions, like anger and disappointment, are slow vibrations; happiness and other positive emotions are higher and faster vibrations. Studies have shown that vibrations from electronics affect our state (Karolinska Institute and the vibrations from computers, lights and air-conditioning).

We can control our lives and our environment by learning to control the vibrations of our emotions and thoughts. Even more interestingly, the vibrations are the mechanism for transfer of emotions – the process is called ‘induction’. Induction is the reason why we feel happy around happy people (or can justifiably talk about happy environments) or the reverse – feel down when others around us are down. And last but not least, these energy vibrations can be used to cope with the pain of trauma and illness.

The forth law of the Universe is the law of opposites. It says that all opposites are the same in nature but different in degree. In other words poverty and riches; fear and courage; love and hate thing are on a continuum and one can move easily between them. (I do find this one really interesting – remember that I have not mentioned the D word for sometime now but use ‘negative wealth’? It turns out that this is not only expedient but also technically correct.)

One important implication of this law is that it does not matter where you are today – you can always change your position on the scale. Also whether you move towards poverty or riches is your choice and entirely within your control. And here the author does something really interesting: he claims that ‘acceptance’ is a neglected opposite to resistance. Choosing ‘acceptance’ focuses one’s mind on the positive rather than the negative and concentrates energy on moving out of the situation rather than on regret. Thus, acceptance does not mean passive submission but rational foundation for action. Achieving acceptance needs long practice – a good game is to look around (particularly when in a negative situation) and find positive things that you like.

This got really long so the next three laws will come tomorrow.
