  • Thank you Firewalker,

This is most interesting, and adding in other universal laws is like viewing a multidimensional mind map as opposed to just seeing one law (of attraction) as if on a flat map.

I look forward to the next installment, whilst enjoying mulling over today's resume, building a mental model of how it all fits together and working out/deciding how to change one's thoughts/attitude/focus to live more consciously in the everyday world.

    All the best

The last three of the seven laws of the Universe are: the law of rhythm; the law of gender; and the law of cause and effect.

The law of rhythm claims that everything that exists in time has its own rhythm – the three states of existence are no exception. Rhythm is the measure of change and by understanding its flow we can maintain mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. This law brings together the laws of vibrations and opposites. Different kinds of rhythm affect different parts of us – drumming affects the mind and brings about higher levels of consciousness. This is probably why drumming is always a part of mystical rituals and shamanism – it is used to induce a trance. This law has important implications for our wellbeing. First, it implies that we should aim to achieve congruence (correspondence) between our rhythm and the rhythm of the Universe – in other words our undertakings will be successful and pleasurable if we ‘go with the flow’ (this, however, means that we have to learn to listen for and understand the rhythm). Second, this law aids acceptance – one should accept that in the rhythm of life there are high points and low points and these are natural. Achieving balance is to understand this and to work with the knowledge and feeling. And third, this law has applications in health particularly psychological health. Apparently, studies show that the sound of the harp is very beneficial to depression. Also, we use the expression ‘I am out of sorts’ – this means that we are out of rhythm. Our different systems are out of rhythm and the physical expression of this is that our stomachs contract. Restoring the rhythm is possible using the power of the mind – when the rhythm stops, we stop.

The law of gender is a very interesting one because is more about ‘class’ (as in classification) than about gender. This law is about balance in the Universe – a balance between positive and negative change (with no axiological values assigned to positive and negative). It is about the belief that everything and everybody carries ‘the feminine’ and ‘the masculine’ at their core. The masculine is positively charged and outwardly oriented while the feminine is negatively charged; the masculine pushes while the feminine pulls. Human soul has feminine and masculine energy forms: ‘me’ with its emotions, habits and moods is the feminine; ‘I’ with its desires and wishes is masculine. ‘Me’ is the creator and ‘I’ is the enactor – neither is much good without the other. This has serious implications about the law of attraction – it stops being the passive, feminine creative imagining and idea but to materialize has to incorporate the masculine action. The two kinds of energy ought to be balanced for success – too much feminine and one is a ‘dreamer’; too much masculine and one lacks creativity (my feeling here is that everyone will have a dominant tendency; once we know what it is we can work on its opposite either by developing it within us or by finding people who complement us). Another implication is that too much competition, which is a function of the masculine, acting side of us, can leave us with exhausted batteries. Important message to industry, particularly the creative enterprises is that their employees ought to be encouraged to develop their feminine energies. Another side to the law of gender is about conception and development – this is the message that everything needs time to come to fruition. Starting a business, for instance, cannot bring benefits immediately; it needs time and by associations demand persistence. Part of this is the core belief that what you want is coming to you.
The law of cause and effect posits that nothing is accidental and everything happens for a reason. Things are not predetermined though – everyone hold their own destiny. Reasons only set in motion long chains of events. This law simply means that when one acts things happen – we have to be aware of these things and be careful of our actions. Our actions are our responsibility – this work in two different ways. First, apportioning blame is not productive – taking responsibility for your actions is the way to grow. And second, the Universe offers us opportunities – whether we notice these opportunities and use them to magnify and aid our actions is entirely up to us. This law is the basis for self reflexivity – it is important to comprehend the reasons for our actions by ourselves. And these reasons are our thoughts – so to work with this law we have to be aware of our thought and practice positive, productive thinking. Negativity can get in – but it has to be allowed to pass so that one can return to more productive thinking. This is achieved by focused and long practice.

So in brief the seven laws of the Universe are:

    The Law of Mentality
    The Law of Correspondence
    The Law of Vibration
    The Law of Opposites
    The Law of Rhythm
    The Law of Gender
The Law of Cause and Effect

These are the laws complement the law of attraction and help us understand its meaning and workings.

Today I had a long and lovely run. Running always makes me think - and it is not like the Japanese writer said ("When I run I don't think about anything." - he said). I do think - in fact this is how I reach a state in which I can focus on only one big thought. It did happen today but since the story begins with Johnny Cash I will have to mention that I listened to him in Sofia for the first time in over twenty years. It is a long story but as some of you might have guessed it is about a man, a very unhappy relationship and long nights of booze, smoke and Mr Cash.

On the run today, finally feeling strong enough, I was listening to Johnny Cash. Many of his songs are about young men being sent to or spending time in prison. One of the things he mentions to show the complete humiliation of situation is 'I am a number not a name.' This got me thinking - are we a name? How does our name relate to our core, to our being?

Lately when I get on my Facebook page I started getting these adverts. Apart from adverts for menopause relief there are flashing things offering the services of a medium and telling me that my name is no accident. Hallo! I do realize it is not an accident – to begin with my parents chose it very carefully. But if you mean that my name is no accident in the sense that it can tell things about my nature I am not convinced.

OK, what would it tell about me if I were called Stephanie, Elena, Georgia, Maria, Eurecia, Polyana? Although it is probably possible to guess colour and/or nationality by the name it does not say much about ‘the inside’ of a person. Would you like to have a guess? Which one of these is my name?

I think that the name I chose tells more about me than the name that my parents gave me when I was only minutes old. So, I am the Firewalker…

But if we get back to Johnny Cash and his prison birds, being a number is not so hard – one can still preserve their core humanity (if they have any to begin with and we are not talking about clinical cases).

No work was done as such today but I finished reading the Meta Secret. Its main message, as I see it, is somewhat different from the main message of the Secret. For me, the Secret left a feeling of magic – you order from the menu of the Universe and it delivers; the only thing one has to do is to believe and wait. The Meta Secret means claims that respecting the seven laws of the Universe and learning to live according to these brings all one really wants – but to get one needs to believe and to do. In other words, if one really, really wants prosperity the Universe provides by offering opportunities; whether or not we take these opportunities is entirely up to us and to realize them we have to meet the Universe half way. I feel more comfortable with this message I have to say.

OH read my summary of the laws – I am not sure how does he feel about these. On the other hand he does feel rather comfortable with the law of attraction – intuitively it appeals to his mainly optimistic nature.

Last night I asked him what is his biggest fear and the answer was “I don’t have fears, really.” This is a good one! As to me, I have realized that my fears have gone as well – fear stopped me for most of my life. Well, if it did not stopped me it probably did slow me down considerably. Fear is a destructive emotion – it paralyses people. And I do feel grateful that we are healthy and doing well.

Today I started reading a book I bought sometime ago and it is one of the gems that are both for adults and for children. It is by Francois Lelord and is called “Hector and the Search for Happiness”. Tonight I would like to give you two of the lessons about happiness that Hector discovered. These are:

“Making comparisons can spoil your happiness” and “Happiness often comes when least expected”.

It is almost the end of our holiday and time to go back home. We are leaving Sofia – which is at the moment really nice, sunny but not hot – tomorrow afternoon and will be back in the evening. I have to say that I am rather looking forward to getting back and getting on – too much rest seems to be making me restless. This despite the fact that September will be a busy month with loads of travelling for me.

Today it occurred to me that this thread is all about learning – learning control, understanding of self, about different schools of thought, etc. So the question is what did I learn during and from these weeks away?
    • I learned that we don’t have to spend thousands to have a great, long holiday. Usually we will go for a package and pay anywhere between two and three thousand pounds for two weeks. This time we have been in the sun for three weeks and have spent slightly under 900 pounds (this includes travel here and around the country). Good time was had by all.
    • Creating is much more fun than consuming – we have been having walks, visiting places and playing games. It was best when we applied some thought as to what shall we do.
    • Little Boy loves it here and this country and its people are part of his cultural heritage. He should be given the opportunity to absorb them.
    • Opportunities are everywhere and the sky is the limit. Everyone can be healthy, wealthy and happy. The secret is in opening one’s mind and learning to recognize the opportunities that are all around. Very hard but impossible this isn’t.
    • Getting 10 pound for one is possible. But one has to be prepared to: spot creative opportunities; act fast; keep his/her mind and eyes open; be prepared to go out of their comfort zone. Until two weeks ago I had never done any trade – have not sold anything else than my ‘expertise’. But I did it and I feel better for knowing I can do it. Here the question that the Greek philosopher Thales asked comes to mind. In Ancient Greece he was mocked that he is poor so he bought the whole crop of olives before they were ripe and made a killing. After he had made all this money he told his fellow Athenians: ‘Now I proved that philosophers can make money and become rich. But is this their job?’
    • Spotting a good deal is a great buzz – but probably not my path. Although, in the spirit of my spiritual learning, I am prepared to keep an open mind on this one.
    • In most things success is easy – it is having a great idea; the ability and skills to implement it; and the persistence of a drug edict.
We are all ready to go home rested, full of energy and happy. We will be back in Sofia soon.

“Sometimes happiness is not knowing the whole story.” – Hector and the Search for Happiness

    Hello Firewalker,

I have just caught up on your thread and I must say very interesting reading. You write very philosophicallly, it reminds me of my university days when I was doing my PhD and I use to read New scientist and debate about everything. Good times :D

I have subscribed to your thread and will continue to read with interest. I have also downloaded the book by Napoleon Hill and I am intrigued. I think I might even buy 'The Secret'.

I'm enjoying your diary Firewalker, and the contributions from other posters here.

Some of the ideas in The Meta Secret reminded me of a Deepak Chopra book I read a couple of years ago called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. The laws are not the same, but there are some similarities. Both seem to use the idea of working in harmony with "how things really are", and that appeals to me. Of course "how things really are" is open to debate but I find the Vedic approach quite interesting.

    Morning Firewalker,

Well I bought the secret last night and read some of it and watched the first 20 minutes of the DVD on the website. I have to say it is very interesting indeed. I also watched your clip from RSA about money in the work place and what drives us, real eye opener.

    Have a good day.

Money Fritter, have a very nice holiday - it all sounds lovely. You will get baqck on track when back, no doubt. I will be very interested to hear what do you think about the secret as a scientist - I am just a humble social scintist and philosopher.

    Take care
