I think the thing to do is to keep moving (so not stand still) and when you aren't moving, sit with your legs up. I'm busy avoiding work right now and doing domestic stuff as a. The sun is shining and b. My brain isn't functioning fully. Apparently this is to do with the iron depletion, and around about the time my legs stop hurting and I can breathe OK my brain cells should leap back into action
so I'm trying to catch up on stuff that will keep me active (ok, pottering about) and not tax my brain...
Bed rest is VERY bad for you. I could feel myself getting fat for the first few days. Turns out I've lost weight (muscle, clearly), so if I can just activate my abs and core I might be able to fit into my suits in 10 days time!0 -
Yep, can second the fatness bit. I was trying to explain to my sister that I feel like I have got fat but in fact what has happened is I have lost strength. She had not sympathy - but then she is a medical person and for her the fact that my wounds are healing properly is so much more important. Funny, really.

Had to post to say I got tears in my eyes when you posted about one of the top American finance bloggers picking up on your blog post. You so deserve it :j. It is obvious the time and effort that goes into your writing and the quality shines through. Well done :T.0 -

Oh, and today I had to make another trip to Tokuda hospital - two hours before we left for the airport. Last night I saw a stitch starting to come out of one of my scars - so it had to be sorted. Before the quality of the procedure is questioned I have to say that it is my body that is rejecting them; we - my body and I - have already had a serious chat about all this and I have had a promise that it will be on it's best behaviour from now on.

LOL to stitches emerging. Don't worry about it - it is not special to Bulgaria. I have had it happen from English stitches.Firewalker wrote: »Forgot to mention - the breaking of the cycle may be in moving more. There was a study in the 1980s where healthy fit students were put on bed rest for couple of weeks. After that they were in very bad shape and health indeed - this changed medical post operative and illness practice (this is why we get out of bed much faster after operations today).
Worth a try I thing - but the balance between resting and moving (and working but laying down rather then sitting) will be hard to find.

I wince at this as I had several operations on my legs in the '50s and was immobilized for 3 months after each. One of my legs was forever thinner than the other. The balance is incredibly important. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -

When it stung me last Monday I was writing a blog post; one where – as I have said here many times – I argued that personal finance is not about the basic rules that most books and blogs give you (like spend less than you earn) but it is about motivation, persistence, ingenuity and character. It was a hard one to write and my favourite ‘sounding board’ (OH) kept pushing me to clarify it. After the Wasp, I finished and published the post but felt very bad about the whole thing, thinking that ‘it is all carp’ anyway and considering calling it a day. The wasp was saying
‘Look here, an A-list blogger-nerd you are not and you are not going to be. This is such large investment; your time is precious and you should choose wisely what to do with it.’
Stuff the Wasp! The same post got picked by one of the top American bloggers (one I have never spoken to) and he tweeted it. My visits have spiked and people are reading. This makes all evenings and weekends when I research, write and design new tools worth it. But have a lost completely my ability to judge my work?
Today, I was up early again – working is resuming. Hard though – not the work but the preparation. I am still not allowed to sit down for long; this means that I have to be in bed (on the sofa) with all the stuff I need around me. But today will be a good day – I am going to finish (or as good as) the first chapter of a very big (in all senses) and (I hope) influential report that I have to do.

Does anyone reading this know anything about mindfulness meditation? If yes and can provide a summary and/or references please do. I am very interested.

Howdy, Steve and Andy kidnapped me and dragged me kicking and screaming on holiday (with my parents approval!!!!) I have come back much calmer and happier. Have been back at work since Tuesday after a 6week holiday and I feel good, James Brown good.

Now you look after yourself ok.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Mindfulness is all about living in the present moment and not getting hung up on past or future. Mindfulness meditations involved being aware rather than 'losing yourself'.
Mindfulness guru is Jon Kabat Zin and in the UK Mark Williams and team in Oxford have pioneered Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses. The UK book on MBSR is called 'The mindful way through depreession and chronic unhappiness' (you do not need to be either to find it an interesting read)
Have a look at the links on this website http://www.mindfulnessnow.org/index.php. One of the women behind local courses is a friend of mine.
You can find YouTube stuff of JKZ and his voice is very relaxing.0
