hello everyone, apologies for randomly posting on someones topic but it wont let me post for some reason.
I have a problem with my credit rating and after doing a recent check via equifax iv noticed i have a default on my file from 2009 which stays on until around 2014-15. Unfortunately i am in need of credit for a mortgage and this default is causing me to have a poor score and therefore im running into problems being accepted.
Basically the default is from a catalogue of mine which i thought was paid off.....however to my suprise my sister (great family) had discovered my password and ordered a large amount of goods without me knowing. anyway one thing lead to another and she ran the bill up too much to afford - this was then passed to debt collectors - then defaulted as she couldnt afford the repayments (ALL without me knowing). I eventually found out that she had done this to me and she paid the debt off slowly but surely.
i did not know a letter intending to default my credit file had been issued. But now i cant seem to get this off my file and onto hers because once the debt is settled its "apparently" classed as acknowledgement that the debt is yours. So the creditors/debt collectors will not remove the default.
What do i do? i dont want to get my sister into any trouble yet im the one suffering as a result???
PLEASE PLEASE help and once again for posting in this section0 -

PS : The sound of silence. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Gilly - I *think* you can ask for a note to be included on your file. You could certainly include an explanation with any mortgage application you make, and show proof that its not your debt. It will probably be more useful to you tho, and you'll get more accurate advice, if you go to the main dfw board and search the threads for "default" "settlement" "credit file", words like that - because you're right, its important not to do too much until you've got more information. Hope this helps, but I really don't know too much about this.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Gilly, I wish I were able to advise but I have no experience of anything like that and very limited knowledge. What may be useful is that you post on the board rather than as part of a thread - the chance of someone who has experienced a similar situation is higher.

Did I mention that last month (July) I experimented with envelopes for the first time. Ever! Let me tell you how I did it. First, I analysed my records of expenditure for the last three months. This is time consuming but not more expensive than not being able to say on what exactly we are spending (the records were quite detailed so it did not simply say "meat" there were specifics what meat from where).
Then all formation (but classified in groups) was entered in a spreadsheet (working on a version that will be a tool to post on The Money Principle). I knew exactly how much we spend historically on different items.
Next step was to select the items that will be paid in cash - in our case we formed four envelopes: food (£260), drink and coffee (£40), DS3 (£20) and services (£53.50). Cash was taken out of the bank on July 1st and put in the envelopes. And guess what?
Food was £7 under the allocation given that we had two visitors staying for a week, a visitor for two days, and a visitor who dined with us three times. Also we had a dinner party for eight. Wow!
The drink and coffee envelope was finished but half of it went to get a bridle thing. And the st was fine.
It is inteesting how taking the money out and having it there (plus the conviction that you are not going to take more out) focuses the mind.

KC, I managed to impress even myself in July. The numbers do not look that modest on their own but as I always say - absolute numbers don't ever make sense because to form a judgement (the thing we do all the time) we need comparison. So what do we compare the numbers with is what matters. In this sense, our food allowance is good.
Yesterday, I made ciabatta bread (sometime ago MG posted a recipe on her thread but I used the one that came with the Panasonic breadmaker). OH confidently announced that this is the best piece of baking I have even done. Thinking about it, the lack of conversation around the table - only munching and appreciative noises - was a great sign as well. Do you know what? Two standard loaves of ciabatta cost 38 pence to make. Now, even in Al*i the ready to bake ones are twice that.
What I am saying, I guess, is that cutting one's food bill without loss of quality is to a large degree matter of changing habits (the things we cook) and changing the way our life is organised. Shopping is a relatively small part of it (in fact I shop more in the local small shops).

A most strange thing happened this morning. OH and I were sitting in our dinning room having coffee. I had almost finished - after the misadventure with the sofa in my study I am very careful where my cup is. This morning I was holding it and talking and...there was this loud bang on the window.
I jumped and spilled my coffee again - good thing there was hardly anything in and that it was mostly on my dressing gown. But the mostest of what happened was still there. Then I looked through the window and there it was. Looking dazed a female blackbird was standing under the window. My first impulse was to go and get it; OH stoped me. Apparently if you touch a bird after a fall it dies.
Half an hour later the bird wasn't there - I truely hope that it flew away and keeps away from glass windows.
