Peaceandfreedom, thank you so much for your kind words - means a lot. As to archive - done! I have started publishing more - currently I publish an article every day but in couple of week time may go down to one every other day. Need to think about it.

Wow, quick work, Firewalker, that is brilliant, it is going to make it so much easier to read everything from the start.

I would just add that I think an article a day is an awful lot to ask of yourself. I know that you are full of ideas at the moment and have a lot to say but daily updates must be so difficult to achieve, especially when you are putting so much time and energy into them. Your blog is not Twitter - your posts are thoughtful and considered. I think readers are happy with regular content, the frequency is not so important - a couple of times a week is fine I would say.

Speaking of Twitter, have you considered a Twitter account linked to your blog? You could post a brief teaser about each blog post on Twitter, with a link to that post. This is how a great many bloggers and indeed other kinds of websites operate. As well as linking to new posts, you can post Tweets commenting on recent financial news or indeed anything you think is relevant.

Your blog has content that is so very timely and appropriate for so many people - you will find lots of those people on twitter, draw them in.

Forgive me if this topic has already been covered - I haven't caught up on either this diary or your blog - a lot of the time the things you say get me pondering and I start exploring things, so I think it's going to take time to catch up!

I will add finally that I am a web developer and I am about to spend more time researching how social media can drive traffic to websites. If I have any helpful info on that score, I will pass it on to you.:)

Thank you Peaceandfreedom, this is a great suggestion. Twitter should be mastered - and it will be. Any ideas you could pass on would be very much appreciated.

I have been working hard on getting content on the blog - after the end of June I intend to publish every other day - Monday, Wednesday, Friday and (possibly) a teaser for the weekend on Saturday. Will announce it clearly on the blog. And I think that you and ClaudiaC are right - it does take quite a bit of research and writing. For now I have reserves - my explorations in the past. I would like to move into the 'increase income' part and this is the one where I need much more research.

Thanks and any ideas really wellcome.

I agree with Peace and Freedom that you should reconsider your commitment to daily posting. Each post requires some thought after reading and time to sink in and be digested. I, for one, would appreciate a slower pace or I will get behind. I do want to open a posting with a frisson of excitement to see what you have come up with this time, not a feeling of guilt that I don't really have time.

I do appreciate your posts, both on MSE and on the blog. Someone said a page or so ago that you do our thinking for us. I'd like to amend that and suggest you are directing our thoughts down new paths - and that is good.

    Thank you. :T:T
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

I agree with a couple of other posters. It seems to be a very regimented way, you live. You DON'T have to go to bed at a specific time, nor arise at a specific time, nor write specifically, for your blog, diary, what ever, at a specific time, everyday, nor do whatever else, it may be.

Just go with the flow and don't be so punishing to yourself. Nothing has to be accomplished in the here and now, ( except maybe if you have to arrive at work for a specific time ). This is the only exception to the rule. Spontaneity is good for the soul, too, ( and for spontaneous thoughts).

    A big hug to you

Good point there! Change is coming. You know the old Americal saying 'If three people tell you that you are a mule go and buy a saddle'. Well, I am on my way to the saddle shop as we speak....

Very nervous at the moment; did I mention that I get more nervous than ny students when they have their viva? This one will be fine, I am sure of it...

Hi FW, definitely recommend Twitter - about 90% of the people who read my blog come from there - not that I have a huge number of followers or a great deal of activity, but it is a very different kind of thing to yours, and I'm happy for now with the bit of conversation I get going. Not sure if you can get a 'tweet' button onto your blog - I use that to post a link on Twitter to each post, plus it also means that other people can share things from your blog on there easily.

Agree re the number of posts too - I've found that the blogs I continue to follow are those who post a couple of times a week - you need to keep the momentum going but at the same time allow people to keep up.

Good luck for your student today.. and yes, do be kind to yourself!

  • Good luck to you both for your student's viva - it just goes to show what a great teacher you are.

Regarding finance, the next things on my personal list to learn about are how savings, investments, pensions and the stock market work - I admit to being clueless, but that will change. Between us oh and I have full pension entitlement, SERPS, S2P, a small public sector pension, an even smaller private sector pension, no savings, shares in two companies (that we have no idea how we got them) one which pays a tiny dividend annually and one which doesn't. Typing this makes me want to throw the lot in a black hole never to see the light of day again but I won't, I hate being clueless and therefore powerless but eugghhhh.

That's good to see you cutting back on your blog posts, seven days a week is a huge commitment, getting your marathon thinking head on is a good idea.

My student got minor revisions - up to six months. In fact the revisions will take about two weeks work but she cannot submit within a month (has a big job).

I am please and my student is very, very happy.

Thrifty, savings are not that hard to compehend - just have to thing of savings as three different things: small cushion (emergency fund), larger cover (do not touch exept if things really, really go pear shaped) and a clearance house (don't touch invest). My feeling is that one should forget about private pension contributions - most pensions at the moment are worth less than the contributions. Good employer schemes still seem good. Investing is something worth learning about - and this is what I have been doing lately but it is hard.

You will have to rationalise all you have and bring it to several mageable groups.

I am sure that together we can do it.

Sounds good to me. When I first started learning about the stock market, I actually started investing *much* too early - I didn't know how much I didn't know, that was the problem, if you haven't grown up around this stuff and learned it naturally, there's a huge amount of information to take in. Bit by bit, is the answer, I think.
