Pick one... Don't reinvent the wheel :p

Aha! No, thanks. All ready running programme overdo the running - I do a combination of running and resustence training which means that to run a hard maarthon in dicent time my longest run is about 2h 39 min.

Interestingly, my trainer has used this training method for ages - now it is getting really big in the States under the name of CrossFit. I draw the line at gymnastics (do swimming instead) but may have a go this time.

OK, my friends. Today was a good and productive day - well apart from a minor argument with LB but in the big scheme of pending puberty and pending menopause not too bad. Hormones are raging high in our house at the moment and OH is buying a blue helmet.

    What was accomplished:

    1) I have a detailed, daily training plan between now and October, 9 when Liverpool marathon is. I also believe that this training plan will get me around in under 4h 30 min.
    2) Firewalker the academic is retreating and Firewalker the doer is raising. I ran for one hour down the river, in the rain and mud and all. Glorious! Got back and embarrased LB in front of his firends - it is not cool when your mum come back looking like an urchin.
    3) I am four posts short of my intended stack of two weeks worth for the blog. Which is very good news indeed because it gives a bit of breathing space for thinking, research, reading up on investing and starting to follow all papers financial. It is astounding how much there is to learn to keep it up - and I am loving every second of this one.

I will be updating on developments relating to our net worth next week - don't wish to jinx anything byt speaking too soon. But it turns out that yesterday our netw worth increased by close to £3,000 completely unexpectedly. Remember how I was joking with OH that after the good run with telephones and banks he should tackle the mortgage? Well, we received a letter telling us that there was a mistake with it and it is £3,000 less. Mmmmm...is this a case of 'Your wish is my command' kind of situation, I wonder.

Anyway, I am going to play some Ludo with my boys of all ages.

Hi Butti, with pleasure - but not sure it works like that. I have never, ever won anything on the lottery - except football pools in mid 80s and this is knowledge and intuition rather than luck. Also it seems to be OH....

My quest for forming a very strong writing habit (even addiction, may be) is continuing. Today I got up at 6 am and have already done good two hours of writing - academic so not terribly exciting but it does excite me. And I am going to get this professorship and in a top university. Are you listening, Universe - this is a command and I am doing my bit here; have done for years but now I also have the focus and the motivation. No more 'good girl' and discipline.

I suspect that getting up early is making me rather mad as well but....

  • No worries FW, mad is good - genius and creativity are the good friends of madness :D

Right! First a brief report of the goings on. Today, as you already know, I was at my desk at 6.20 sharp. Managed to work very productively till about 8.20 when breakfast started – freshly bakes wholemeal bread with hazelnut; divine. But after that all went a bit wrong...but more about this one later. Thrifty, thank you so much – I always knew that there is a certain level of madness around; the genius and creativity are news to me, but very welcome news.

Training has properly begun. After my exertions yesterday – one hour run – today I went to the gym and did three times circuits consisting of 47 press ups, 60 squats, 60 half heaves and 2 min on the cross trainer thing...you know I believe that exercise machines are the Devil, don’t you? All done, we shall see how much pain there is tomorrow. No time for pain though – tomorrow is a tempo run (I am feeling sick from now). But I am motivated – have been envisioning everything when I cross the finish in 4h 25 min. And part of the vision is a Firewalker that is 10-12 kg lighter! My trainer e-mailed back the training programme I sent him to check – got most things right but he, as expected, has upped the intensity of some sessions. I’ll have my revenge when we discuss his business next!

Now about the other parts of my day! After the productive spell early in the morning there was considerable ‘keeping busy’ time. Mostly visiting MSE, looking at blogs, checking e-mail – all things that Tim Ferriss tells us to avoid and control. I will have to become a bit stricter with all that and have designated times – and observe them. More habits to get rid off and new ones to create – this will take some time, I think. But this time, no shock therapy – one habit will be changed at the time and with each one I’ll persist for fourteen days.

I still managed to: read two academic papers, read my PhD student’s thesis (220 pages), send my student a message about her viva, discuss arrangements about my sabbatical with boss-man, send a message to my project officer in Brussels...oh and cook...

Is it possible that OH is right and that I never stop?
