What I fancy doing for fun and profit is to do a carboot sale - it is very good for getting out one's comfort zone; talking to people; doing a gentle sell; hustling...Should put it on life goals list.

I am not the world's best for ebay, I know someone who is very good but she doesn't get much on mse these days. Will see if I can find someone to assist you though.
As for carboots... they used to be good, now they just want to haggle everything down to 10p!
3Dogs and her husband Mr 3Dogs do carboots and could give you very good advice.0 -

I hear that there is a man in America who is offering to look after people's pets when they are taken off to heaven in the rapture. He is charging $1000 up front. No refunds :T Why didnt I think of that?
He does have bookings and he says that he isnt sure what will disappoint them more............ Jesus not arriving or not getting a refund when they are still on earth tomorrow! Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Hi again Firewalker - sorry not keeping up with your thread lately but Aesop mentioned you might want some advice on car booting, so here goes:
BEFORE you do a car boot, visit the one you plan to do, get a feel for the place, find out what time you have to be there and what time you get away, plus how much the pitch is. As you wander round, get talking to some of the booters to find out a few tips - check what size pitch you get and the prices people are selling at so you can get an idea how to price your stuff. Sort out your stuff that you want to sell, and have an idea of what you want for them. It is up to you whether you price everything up - it certainly helps in some ways, in case you say a price off the top of your head and end up losing out
ON DAY - remember to take flask and food - don't want to be spending your profits at the cafe do you? Have someone with you, even if it is just to keep you company and to mind the stall while you nip to the loo or have a wander yourself. Take at least £20 of change with you - 50p, £1, £5 notes are the most useful - be ready to be given a £20 note for a £1 item, but just give notes a quick glance as counterfeit larger notes are not uncommon at these places. Keep your money handy, but out of view. Oh, and take carrier bags with you
As a new booter, be ready for the vultures who circle around newbies ready to snatch a bargain, as they will be in there before you've got the stuff out of the boot!!
Don't let them bully you into taking less than you want for an item. OK you will lower your price on a lot of things, by a small amount but don't 'give them away', especially if you are not just doing a one-off car boot - you can always adjust your prices on later days
At the end of the day, if there is anything you don't want to take home, ask a neighbouring booter if they do boots regularly and it they will give you a price for it all
I am sure you will enjoy this bit ..... interact with the customers, as most people love to wander the car boot chatting as they go, and if you engage them in chat then they are more likely to buy something
Car boots are very hard work at the moment, but one-off's are still good earners as you have stock that is 'new' to the market and that is always welcome to fellow booters as well as customers
Treat it as a trip out, socialise with the other stall-holders and customers, and, if it is a fine day, you will still enjoy it, and hopefully, make yourself a bit of money .... or a lot of money

Thank you 3Dogs and thank you Aesop for the advice. We will see how this will be organised. I am in exploratory mood!

Oh and FW, your blog does not smell of old leather and have cobwebs :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. I don't think I can cope with many more finance blogs written by young American men :rotfl:. I have learnt a lot from your blog, all about net worth (our's looks a lot better than I ever thought on paper) and the importance of income-generating assets and passive income (of which we have neither). I have learnt that I am a "well-to-do" but... I'm still flat broke each month :rotfl:.
Good luck with your car-boot or ebaying.0 -
I am so proud of myself :j
I would have liked to have this next to the computer but no picture rails in that room. But I have to walk past it several times a day so should work.
Obviously daily changing the text to what is the most froggiest task to do. Plus it has room to put DD's beaver activity info and all the birthday invitations she gets (and I spend always ages trying to find). I am getting more (smaller) magnets for those."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Marru, thats great :rotfl:
And what a lovely post from 3Dogs! Almost tempts me back, tho I don't have enough stuff any more - some brilliant points in there, and a brilliant avatar too, if you don't mind my saying :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
FW - you need to check the carboots out first. We've only carbooted for a while once or twice. Our friends knew of one where there were buyers willing to pay for good things, some there's no one willing to pay anything. Ask around your acquaintances and trawl the internet to find out the goodies versus the baddies.
We did price things like collectables up front on ebay, and then you could say on ebay it would be 'this', but of course on ebay there's damage in transit, was something hidden in the photo, no fees or postage on either side - so they prefered buying the real thing now!! Do get lots of change from the bank first. Things like excesses stationary, pens etc, can be clustered in 10p, 20p etc items baskets - people and children love finding new dinosaur rulers etc and little quirky bits.
Making the stall more organised so people can easily see and sort through what they want helps too.
We were surprised at how much we enjoyed our carbooting, but that was a time ago and in a different area.0 -
So, apparently twitter has been full of Australians, New Zealanders etc. saying that the world hadn't ended. Its now ten past six here, so take it we're safe.
Not sure what the Americans will make of it though.
FW I don't think your blog looks old. But then I don't take much notice of the design, so long as it doesn't detract from the content.Debts at LBM - Mortgages £128497 - non mortgage £27497 Debt now £[STRIKE]114150[/STRIKE][STRIKE]109032[/STRIKE] 64300 (mortgage) Credit cards left 0
