Karl Popper i was thinking about him earlier today. Wow!
Glad you enjoyed Vienna (sooo embarrassed - I still haven't been).
I hope your medical results come back quickly and everything is sorted asap.
I am thinking about the Paul Coelho statement.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Today was a difficult day full of pain and tiredness. I finally saw a specialist about a health matter that has been around for some time and saying that the examination was not pleasant is a massive understatement. It was painful but what is worse it was about like drinking tequila – the full effect kicked in much later. So today was spend mainly in bed with my computer (not what you think).
Resting may do me some good anyway – although on my day of rest I did research on the history of money. This is fascinating and I managed to write an article about that for my blog. Did you know, for instance, that the usual interest rate on loans in Ancient Greece (about 170BC) was 10%? Or that a dessert Greek island became a financial centre of the world? That banking started earlier than money? What is the etymology of ‘money’ and ‘mint’? Well I learned all this today and it makes a pretty interesting picture.
Last night I read the blog of a 19 years old American student who argued that most procrastination is because we are really tired, not because we don’t want to do something. So where was I? Yes, rest.
Resting the body can activate the mind. Something relatively minor that happened today made me ask myself a question. It is: ‘Can, and under what conditions, liberal pluralism of choice becomes moral pluralism? Is there absolute morality?’
What do you think? Or am I wasting my time.

FW I hope you are resting and not in too much pain after today's experience.
Are you wasting your time? - In what way? Your writing? What? You seem just a little bit down tonight?
Turn off the computer, sleep, sleep, sleep - and when you wake up get that OH of yours to bring you breakfast in bed!
When you feel a bit better maybe you can explain what your question means - I do not understand the question therefore cannot offer an answer, but I am intrigued.Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

I don't think your wasting your time ..... Absolute morality .... Interesting .... Quick first thought that popped into my head .... Wouldn't that be subjective? Ok it 2.45 am and my brain can't think straight .... But subjective jumped in .... Will give it more thought
Sleep well ... Rest plenty0 -
Good morning, my friends. Claudiac, the question was: 'Am I wasting my time asking this kind of questions?'
Pickle, tequila is letal - I have not had any since this faithful night when I was perfectly fine at a big official dinner in Mexico and 10 minutes after reaching my room I was very unpleasantly drunk.
El, I was thinking that because of the demands of tolerance (quite justified much of the time) we drift into 'relativist morality' - 'oh, well, if it is someone's choice it is OK'. Absolute morality will provide a universal criteria (and universally observed) for good and evil. This is the one where the aim does not justify the means - there are things that are universally wrong.
Are the ten commendments part of 'absolute morality'? Can we think of a core of moral norms that are absolute and a very large perephery that is 'relative'?

Interesting on morality - yes, I think there are some things that are absolutely wrong. Clitoridectomy, for instance. I don't often get involved in discussions about morality, but that one popped into my head straight away - it still happens, and its not okay that it happens.
Vienna - glad you enjoyed it so much, how wonderful! And the Coelho quote is absolutely true, I've had experience of that in my work as a therapist, and in my attempted work of trading.
I'm sorry to hear you've been hurting from necessary medical testing - I really hope you get a clean bill of health, soon too, and that whatever problem you *do* have is easily sorted .... lots of hugs to you, FW.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Ha - yes, let us say that our experiences of tequila are one and the same. Only trouble is, there is video evidence in my case, and that particular evening got very interesting with the brakes between my mouth and brain oiled to the point of 'no longer working'.Please call me 'Pickle'

I think that makes perfect sense. We know from research as well as experience that body and mind are interconnected and that we cannot separate them. I do know that after a good night's sleep, I feel much more likely to get on and swallow my frogs.:D
As for moral pluralism, have you been reading Isaiah Berlin? Not wasting your time at all but much more fun after a few drinks with like minded friends and colleagues.;) If only the conclusions could be recalled in the morning! But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Forgot to say that I hope you feel better now and that all is well with the tests - now that was me concentrating on the mind and ignoring the all to real body. :rotfl:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0
