    1) Map the actions needed to achieve this;
    2) Map a time-line for achieving this;
    3) Compare what I do with what I ought to be doing;
    4) Look carefully at what I do currently and decide: a) what can be dropped (delegated or un-necessary); b) what has to be done but perfection is not necessary (is some delegation possible); c) what has to be done perfectly.
    5) Create mind-map(s) linking desired outcome with activities
    6) Make sure that these are placed where I can see them.

    Good plan.

    May I add the following - from experience :(

    7) Re-evaluate above.
    8) Revise above.
    9) (eventually) completely rewrite above.

    Repeat from 1 - 9 for the rest of your life.

    I've looked back through previous journals and discovered this is the pattern for me.

    BUT

    Each stage is essential and you can't shortcut any stage. (I've tried)

    So, congrats, you're on the right track.

    Mind you, I'm way ahead of you in years and can't offer any advice except to follow your heart and let your head follow.

    You're doing fine and sharing it which may be more important than what you achieve yourself.
    But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

    Hi Marru, and I hear you - but I am writing. It is about the transition from 'writer' to read 'author' that this is about. Also I have to find a way to move in parallel my job, my calling and my passion. The lists are done at this time of night - every morning there is three hours writing - mainly academic writing though.

    FW
    Well done on writing in the morning... I put three hours aside then too, but I don't really write well until late at night.

    You'll be pleased to hear I've finished responding to peer review on one paper, so hopefully it won't meet two many obstacles between now and publication.

    I'm still awaiting two reviews on the more complicated one. Of next month's work, one paper will be ready for review on Monday (and is going to be reviewed at a meeting on Tuesday). I then have one to prepare for a co-author on Monday, while another should get mostly done on Tuesday/Wednesday because content may depend on the review of the complicated paper I'm waiting for the reviews on. And after that, its a bit of a race against time to see whether I can come up with enough content for the last paper by the end of the week to get it out to be reviewed while I'm on leave! But it almost sounds manageable...

    Tomorrow and Sunday I'm going to try not to work. I need to do some basic cleaning so my mind is not too cluttered, and I need to make chocolates for easter (messy...)

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Hi FW and all! I hadn't done the money experiment thing, FW, though because you mentioned it, I've now found BBC Learning - that will get me my words of Polish by Easter Friday, and will also hopefully let me learn how to merge photos to create a nice little banner or two.

    I had a couple of hours of concentrated admin work yesterday, getting some of the to-do papers out of the way - its astonishing how much there was / still is, and how much better it feels to have (some of) it gone - no wonder I've been having a hard time concentrating on anything else!

    Sounds like you are doing fine - at some point you asked about peer-review. The big workshop I co-organised was about peer review so if you would like to talk about it give me a shout.

    Resting during the weekend is a good idea. I mentioned before that we have a new bread-making machine? Well, it makes lovely bread but it also rests most of the time. So I am following its example - except continuing with my exercise.

    FW - I think I will see the world in a different light from now on! I am still ahead of UK time, so I am a little confused. Mr NL is just back from a 4 week business trip to Norway, so he collected me at the airport, we had tea at IKEA and were sound asleep by 8.30pm on Thurs.

    I am doing a talk for a group I am in, so will be ordering thoughts and photos in the next couple of weeks. India is 'full on', sound, colour, heat, smell and the cities we visited were so different.

    Delhi : Noise, smell and Mad Max drivers, cycle rickshaws and Tuk Tuks.
    Agra : Costa Coffee, Baby Taj, Red Fort and Taj Mahal at dusk
    Jaipur : HEAT ... 36deg, hawkers and traders galore. Elephant ride and projectile vomit (thankfully not at the same time ;))
    Dharmashala : Alpine and guest house overlooked the Dalai Lamas residence. Full of hippies from all over the world and Tibetans
    Bir : Alpine and soo peaceful, did early morning walks with the Colonel. Full of Norwegians and Russians all trying to get smooth, clean air to fly.

    And that only scratches the surface ... cycle rickshaws (a scary fun fair ride), Tuk Tuks (a squeeze for 4), the Delhi metro (air-con and carriages for Laidees), indian trains (simply the best), night buses (just like Harry Potter), service buses (70km for £1.20)

    My favourite was staying on a tea plantation in the Himalayan foothills (at 5200ft ... 1.5 Ben Nevis's) and watching paragliders take off at 8000ft. I will stick a few photos on FB once I work out where I put my camera lead ...

    Oh and there was the audience with Karmapa where security got confused, we had the paperwork and they let us thro'!!!!

    On MG's tread I said that today I will not make plans but let the day unfold. So far the following has unfolded:

    1) shopping - done spent £34.
    2) kitchen cleaning - done (meanwhile OH is cleaning the bathrooms and Young Man is vacuum cleaning; threatening to leave them all wothout lunch worked a miracle)

    What is likely to unfold is de-cluttering at least one room - and applying the Frog Principle it will have to be out bedroom. It will feel so good when it is done.

    At the same time it is a lovely day outside - the sun is out inviting us all to play and it is warm. Oh, well...there will be many more days like this one.

    Almost forgot...remember the wishing and invisioning thing? It still works - tested it today.
