i did scoff at the wine crates myself
i wanted veg boxes, and although not very MSE, i paid quite a bit for them
so we all want to know what off license she lives near:D
i may need to BUY a floaty dress if it makes you such a good gardener:T0 -
Such a disappointment and I felt that it was a waste of time.
What made it look worse for me was the fact that I had just watched The Beechgrove garden on BBC1 Scotland, a professional long running gardening program that is absolutely streets ahead.
That was such a help last night! The bit about the trees and the planting of roses.... so much good info in it.
However i do like this edible gardener programme.... don't know why it's relaxing telly I suppose
Gonna watch Beachgrove again though... very useful!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
I have started reading her thrifty garden book which has more actual advice in it although i am not sure how i would go about sourcing all the wooden wine and champagne crates she grows loads of the stuff in.....i have bin dived for wood and pallets but maybe i should try round the back of an upmarket bottle shop instead!
I picked up the thrifty gardener book for £5 in the works and I really like it. It explains things in an easy to understand way. It's in the same vein as the tv show, but with lots of useful information.0 -

Not unless I didn't want the wife to come close to me for a couple of days.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I watched the first episode and didnt really like it and thought I would give it another go last night but sorry not a happy bunny - all that wizzy camera work is doing my head in - you think you can see what is going on in the garden and whizzzzz its showing something in black and white - no not for me I'm afraid.2010 has got to be better than the last two years!! :rotfl:
Weight loss to date: 3 Stone & 5lbs!! Weight loss this week: 2 lbs !!:j0 -
I'd like to see Alys and Sophie (Dahl) be given a programme together with Alys getting grubby in the garden and lovely Sophie in the kitchen doing the cooking. The twosome combination of hippy-chick and posh-tottie would be ideal.0

Champagne crates being in short supply in these parts, I have acquired a few of those plastic crates from the back of our local greengrocer's. They measure about 60 by 40 by 25 cms deep. I line the sides with cardboard and cover the bottom with small pieces of broken up polystyrene. The cardboard keeps the compost in place for a full growing season without disintegrating. Very thrifty!0

I watched for the first time this week and was not impressed.
Seemed to be all about "look how easy it is to be self sufficient" without actually imparting many FACTS and information on growing.
Oh and the nettle booze tasted bad because they made it in such a slap dash manner it was probably infected and oxidized !
Good nettle beer is both easy to make and a pleasure to drink on a sunny afternoon. (just DONT make it like they did!)“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
I was very surprised that she got blight where the tomato was grown in her greenhouse. I have never had blight on my greenhouse tomatoes but I keep plenty of ventilation to prevent condensation on the tomato leaves. She said that she was keeping her greenhouse tightly shut and that is where she went wrong.0
