The Edible Gardener - New BBC2 Series with Alys Fowler, starts 7th April

Wednesday 7th April, 8pm, BBC Two

New series (looks like 6 programs) starring Alys Fowler - and her Birmingham backgarden - as she shows how your garden can produce food all year round and still look good.

Program 1 is about Peas & Beans; Program 2 is about Salads

Link to website HERE

Hopefully the programs will be full of Alys' 'no-frills' approach to gardening and be suitable for low budgets and the ordinary family's back garden.

Hope you all get some good weather this BH weekend to work in your gardens.

I do like Alys Fowler. Her book on thrifty gardening was fantastic.

A lot of gardeners talk about skip-raiding for wood and gardening materials, but she's the only one I've seen photographed actually in one slingling stuff out and then using the stuff for a project.

    Great girl!

I think this programme looks great, I do like Alys and she seems very down to earth and 'ordinary'. The fact that she's growing stuff in her own back garden and not on some massive plot with unlimited funds makes it much more interesting for a newbie veg grower like me.

    Thanks OP

Yep I've set it to record already on Sky.
The day also coincides with Beechgrove Gardens (Scottish gardening programme) first episode starting so got that set too.
I've never watched Beechgrove Garden but heared it recommended here.
For those in England you can get it on Sky channel 990 (BBC 2 Scotland ).
    Good night weds then!

Problem with a lot of these kind of shows is they have large gardens which make me very envious.

Yep, the famously green-veg loving Scots will be anxious to get the advice of a wee Sassenach lassie all right. Oh, wait...

    I know what you mean!.
Or like Gardeners World on Friday (the med/tropical garden owned by the two men in Bishop Stortford) you see just what some people can do with a garden about the same size as yours, how amazing/colourful they can make it look, then you look at yours!.
That garden can not have been cheap but it was fab!.

Looking forward to this, as someone with enthusiasm but no knowledge it sounds right up my street.

I wish someone would make a series about wildlife gardening too, that's my real passion!
Oh dear, here we go again.

Perhaps a bit of tongue in cheek?
