Heck - all that meat and now 60 eggs. You won't be short of protein that's for sure!0

Sounds like you need to hope that someone donates some veggies to go with this lot... or see if you can get as good a deal on them as MIL got on her eggs!0

Hello!
I think with a little of the leftover £15 I would buy in a few staples: one of those big bags of pasta shapes, rice, stock cubes (do you have any in?) and some longlife / powered milk, some tinned fruit (which you could make up with a bit of value jelly into a pud)/ tinned frozen or dried (or whoopsied!) veg? Flour? Plus, not sure if you have any cereals in? Oats are quite cheap and you can make porridge up with water / powdered milk.
Then you extend your range to things like carbonara (with your eggs & bacony bits) and savoury rice / risottos which can use up any number of random meats and go with chopped sausages etc, or cooked and deboned chicken drumsticks etc.
I think I definitely agree with the rest that you can stretch that meat over 2 months, seems like a pretty good deal, maybe something you could factor into your regular budgeting after this month is over?

You can freeze eggs if you beat them a bit with a tiny pinch of salt, useful for omlettes or baking. Just defrost in the fridge overnight and use as normal.0 -
Never realised that you could freeze eggs - I've got some that are edging out of date. Thank you for the link.Surviving the ups and downs of life with DH

Oh dear that does sort of makes things difficultI guess you could experiement with a different type of fruit juice, perhaps a berry one? You could just substitute with stock of course.

How come she won't give you the recipe? How strange........especially since you are planning on given them to your DS. Nowt queer as folk!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

What about swapping or selling on some of the meat? I am sure a friend/family member/neighbour would be happy to swap a load of veg for a chunk of meat, or give you a little less than the supermarket price for it. Just mention that you have more than you can easily use and see if anyone wants some, then negotiate a 'price' for it. Pity this time of year isn't harvest season, as people with allotments often have a glut of veg a bit later in the year!
Sounds like veg is the most difficult thing for you this month, as carbohydrates such as rice and pasta are cheap to buy.
For the future, do you have any land where you could grow a bit of veg? Even at this time of year, you should be able to manage lettuces and radishes which will be ready in a few weeks, even if grown in pots on a windowsill. Courgettes are pretty hardy though some types spread quite a lot, and just two plants will give you more courgettes than you could possibly use up over a couple of months in the summer! Other squash type plants are easy to grow too. Chillies can grow on the windowsill, as well as some herbs. Seeds, potting soil and pots are cheap at the moment, check places like poundshops and Wilkinsons.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Chaos, that's a fab selection of meat, and people on here have made some great suggestions for getting the best out of it. I'd go along with freezing half for next month, there's way too much for one month and you'd end up eating it in waste. Although your DH shocked you by spending so much of your budget, it sounds like he got a really good deal and I'm sure you'll thank him once the shock wears off!
My salvation on lean days is pasta. Now I know you said you haven't got any but I do think you should make it a priority purchase even though your budget is tiny. At the moment Asda are selling two 3-kilo bags for £3 - that's 50p per kilo which is really good value. If that's too much of your budget have you got a friend who would go halves with you? Failing that, the Smart Price pasta comes in smaller bags and is therefore less of an outlay - it's edible but needs a bit longer cooking.
I also think that although fresh fruit and veg are best if you can afford them, unless you can get them very cheaply you are best to go for frozen. You can also get things like peppers frozen which will add a bit of variety and they are still reasonable.
As far as salads are concerned, you get more for your money if you buy a lettuce and all the other bits and make your own, but I find I always end up throwing the last bit away so now I buy the Asda Smart Price 50p bagged salad and there's no waste.
Hope this helps.Oh dear, here we go again.0
