Is it because its paid in arrears? do you get the last payment as it it now on the 14th then as of payments after the 15th it will have gone up.
ah that could be it, so I won't get the extra until the 28th.

Thats a shame, ds needs a whole school uniform due to a massive growth spurt and the extra would have come in very handy to get it before he went back to school

just a thought................ I cant see them just letting you keep all maintainence payments........what if youre in the fortunate position of getting say £100 a week? surely they'll just take it off ur ctc instead? after all it is income.............

AFAIK maintenance has never been taken into account for tax credit purposes. I can't see that changing now otherwise what would be the point in changing the rules at all?

CTC is completly different to maintenance and income support so I dont see how it can be related?

I think this will make non working single parents want to not work even more!
My friend is due to get £750 a month maintenance now ontop of £64 IS, £94 CTC and full housing! So thats £1382 roughly per month with no rent or council tax to pay, free school meals etc. And will probably still be able to earn £20 per week so another £80-£100 to add onto that total again!

Surly the government will soon see thats not right and put a limit on maintenance again!!

fwiw My lone parent advisor says that the majority of her clients receive very little in maintenance from the NRP, in fact she actually got excited when she got to put more than £5 in the maintenance box when doing a better off calculation for me after a job interview lol

Some PWC will be massively better off but sadly there will be many who this change will make little or no difference.

I think that this is one crazy idea. It's rewarding single parents, before I get jumped on, I brought my daughter up alone & thought that it was wrong that single parents received extra child benefit. Does this mean that couples who are struggling will split up just so that they can afford to raise their families. It should be capped. Any money coming in is income & no matter where it comes from it should be counted.
How many absent parents who have gone on to have other families will now stop paying their maintenance when they realise that their ex's are getting far more than them?
Is this a quick an election is coming how can we get lots of votes?

karen x..........there has to be a catch somewhere surely? otherwise its ridiculous. not only will we be living in a society with an underclass (the non workers, not a criticism, just an observation on how society views people) the underclass will have its very own set of people to look down on (those who receive no maintenance)

Mybe i should find a wealthy man to impregnate me before i get too old? nah, dont think i'll bother lol

No there is no catch, and that is what is so wrong with it! Especially for the mothers who have multiple fathers of children, if they paid only £30 each, that would mean an extra £120 per week for a family of 4 children, no housing costs, no council tax it really is making for a split society of the very rich or the single parents who have good lifestyles, whilst the rest of us pay through the nose for it all. It is very, very wrong.

Unfortunatly no catch! But there should be! Or at least instead of the £20 per week they could of upped it to £50 maybe. Instead of the whole thing! Might not make much of a difference to some ladies as they might only get an extra £100 or so over the month. But its just rediculous in some cases, ie my friend! £1400 a month rent free etc. Its absolutly shocking! And her 2 boys are starting nursery soon too with their free nursery time!
Im still waiting on maintenance from my oldest sons dad through CSA. 6 years without a penny.
Hopefully once this is in place for a few months the government will realise how silly it is and put it back to how it was!

i have to say i think a lot of things come a bit too easy now. when i had my kids in the 80's there was no help, just child benefit and perhaps a rent rebate is you were really struggling. its just plain wrong to be better off not working unless you have a disability. i always worked even though i would have been no worse off on benefits after travel/childcare were taken into account. i think working makes you feel better about yourself and just as importantly, give your kids the right example! my daughter has 2 boys, the youngest contracted encephalitis at 18 months old and is now severly disabled (hes 4 in june) shes been told by the social worker that it would be quite accepytable, in her position, for her and her husband to stay at home to care for the kids, instead they both work (my daughter full time and her husband part time) not for much financial benefit but as an example to the 5 year old! i cant believe its acceptable to expect the state ( tax payers) to fund generation after generation of non working, benefit taking families!
