How maintenance affects benefits
Currently, if you or your current partner who you live with are claiming Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance, the first £20 per week of any maintenance you receive will not affect those benefits.
From 12 April 2010, you will be able to keep all of the maintenance that you are paid without it affecting your benefit entitlement. However, you must continue to tell Jobcentre Plus about any maintenance payments you get.

So if say 'sarah' had 3 children by one father, may be getting around £250 a month but 'jane' had 3 children by 3 fathers, jane can keep up to £400+ still get IS and maximum housing benefit (depends on if the fathers are working?)
Why do i think this could be open to exploitation?0 -
I wouldn't get too excited. It looks like something else is being put in place next year. From the Child Maintenance site here:
...From 2011, the Commission will introduce a new statutory maintenance scheme (the future 'gross income' scheme), based on latest available tax year information from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. Using information from a single source is expected to reduce significantly the time taken to calculate child maintenance. The maintenance award will be fixed for a year unless income varies by more than 25%...0 -
Im sure there are a few women out there willing to have a few kids by a few blokes just to benefit from this new rule, shame they dont value themselves or the kids enough to try giving them a family life over a wealthier one0

How old is your child and what other income do you have at the moment?Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0
