Child Maintainance no longer affects Income Support??

I just got a letter and i really hope its not a april fools joke, but after april 12th 2010 i will get the full £65.45 a week instead of £11.68 every fortnight!

Im so pleased.

  • It's correct. From the 12th April, child support payments are disregarded in full, not just the first £20 as it currently is.

I was told at the job centre yesterday that this also applies for JSA (after 12th April). I can't see anything online which mentions this. Is it true?

In addition, from April 2010, child maintenance will be fully disregarded when calculating all out-of-work benefits. This will allow parents with the main day-to-day care to keep every penny of their child maintenance payments, where maintenance is paid.

Can't understand why people think it's not true. I really don't think the DWP partake in any form of jokes.

Thanks DX2, I didn't mean that I expected it to be a joke or something. The woman I spoke to yesterday managed to make several mistakes when passing my details onto someone else so she could easily have mixed up with what I could apply for. I thought maybe she'd assumed I'd apply for IS. That and the fact that when I googled I didn't see JSA mentioned explicitly, that's why I asked.

Is there some kind of cuttoff point eg if maintenance is £100 per week for instance?

I haven't come across any cut off point, I know it sounds too good to be true!

It does sound too good to be true, jumping for £5 odd a week to full rate £65 odd is a very large amount for me, Thats why I questioned it, given the date.

Why did you only get a fiver a week? It was £10 pw then it went to £20 per week without it affecting your IS.
