I have to say i would be extreamly offended if i was asked to pay rent on a paid house..... id happily half bills etc and id make it clear i didnt want calim to half the home... but if it were me id be moving out and leaving you in your rent free home..... it seems rather extravagent, we only know half the story.... ie how long have you been together ? if you are unsure why ask someone to move in.. im not saying give a free ride but i feel this is extreme ....I AM A MONEY MAGNET, THEY ARE MAKING MORE MONEY FOR ME AS WE SPEAK:pMIKES MOB, DFW NERD 1071, DFW LHS 132!MIRACLES HAPPEN I'VE SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES. It wouldn't bother me if I were your GF, I mean it's not like she can't afford it is it?!
Like some others have said though, watch out because if she does pay you and the relationship goes belly up, she may have a claim on the house for what she has paid into it.
The only thing I don't agree with, is if you married her and had kids, you would still want rent ~ that's taking the p!ss.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
If she pays rent is she then entitled to a share in the uplift in value of the property from the time she moves in to the time your cold fish attitude sends you your separate ways?
I suppose you could call the 'rent' a contribution to future repairs and upgrades, put it in a joint account, split it proportionally when the time comes...26.2.19/14.1.19: T MC 3629.26/3629.26 : VM 0% 1050/13876.59 : W 0% 100/1485 = 4409.26/18990.85 =25.17%28.1.19/28.1.19 Hubs 0% £400/£2,977 =13.44%SPC 2019 #073

the situation :- we've been together for two years , we live around 2 hours away from each other , but see each other every weekend ( me doing the traveling 99 % of the time at my cost never asked for a bean in fuel , she has 2 cats and can't leave them at weekends) i stay at her place, she does not ask me for rent for the weekend but I have the travelling costs so alls fair there.
I would be either selling my place to buy a place down where she lives and then buy a place down there or buy a 2nd place , rent out first place etc mortgage on 2nd place, as she wants to be around her family.
I guess I'm a real horrible loveless individual !!!!!! Lifes wonderful !!!!!0 -
So she doesn't live with you full time? Does she have her own house with bills to pay for too?0

I take on board the point about a claim on the house, but legally it sounds so unfair , if you can't make a claim against a landlord when they sell any property you have lived in, then the law of the land is unfair .
but legally accept the point as unfair as it is.!!!!! Lifes wonderful !!!!!0 -
If she doesn't live with you, why on earth should she pay you rent?
If you are talking about her moving in with you, then what about if she asked you for rent when you stayed at hers for all those weekends?
Can't believe you even mention that you have not asked her for fuel costs for going to see her! It's your choice to go, so you pay and if you love her, then why would you even think about this?!
Come off it, you're just a tight arrss git aren't you haha!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

currently yes , she rents and pays all her own bills , as do I for all my own bills , it's me that does the staying over as mentioned it's 2 hours south for me and 2 hours north each week ( I pay all fuel costs)!!!!! Lifes wonderful !!!!!0 -
Wouldn't say loveless - you simply place more emphasis on money and making money work for you than she probably does.
It's a tough one. I have married friends with kids who still have seperate bank accounts and all bills (including mortgage, holidays etc.) are split down the middle. On the other hand, I've been with my partner for 7 years and for the last 5 or so we have pooled all our funds in one bank account even though I earn three times more than she does.
Everyone is different, but I'm thinking that you'll have to come to some sort of compromise between yourselves in the end...0
