  • Morning all. Its Friday, so working from home. Bindweed in allotment is exactly that, a real bind!!! It just keeps coming. As this is our 1st year we knew we would have to improve the soil and weed effectively, but its constant. But....the radishes are super, the peas and beans are binding their way through supports and strawberries are hopefully going to be scrummy, if we get them before the birds. DGS birthdays last week, all 3, so a VERY expensive week. They keep growing, its like the bindweed LOL. Bread maker (that we got from eb*y for 99p) is being put to good use, but need to frugalise more in July to keep budget down after the birthdays. Regards to all.

    TD,

I am off to the doctor's this afternoon, so I chuckled at your post re the GPs. I had visions of two people with white coats and stethoscopes on their hands and knees nibbling in your vegetable patch.

Don't worry about feeling that you constantly aren't achieving pure frugality. I have felt exactly the same as you. It does get easier - but never perfect.

I find the news and budget scaremongering doesn't help. I used the bbc budget calculator http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10335476.stm and it looks like we're going to be better off. This is about the first time in my entire adult life that I got grants etc before they are scrapped! So I feel quite lucky.

I can't be doing with spreadsheets, but do check internet banking more than once a day! I am very superb at transferring into a savings account and keeping a very minimal balance in my current acct. So we aren't wasting much, but do have contingency if need be. eg if things get really tough we could reduce our grocery spending. The only trouble is I feel poor because we don't have a savings acct building up (still managing to overpay the mortgage but can't view that on line).
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Hi guys....feeling pretty flat with bug and like girlie stuff and what not :(. Only bit of good news is that I passed my ECDL Module 2 first attempt :D....so now onto module 3 (and it gets harder for me hereon in)...

chest is not too bad but now ear is bunged up and like it hurts...pray that 'aint infected :p...

so it's just normal 'tired pd' thoughts (personality disorder/robot delusion thoughts) but I'm sure they'll shift in their own sweet time...reducing caffeine currently but not ready for a return to reducing the cigs just yet though would like to...

and just done another column on blanket so that's 30 more squares to do and I'm finished ...think I might make blankets (patchwork afghans) to sell cos i really enjoy doing them and I'm good at them - even though this one has taken so far 6 months... If you want another pic guys you'll have to let me know...it's basically got 3 more columns on it now (one right side, 2 left side)...Not cost that much in wool. I reckon less than £20 for the whole thing (though the sofa was only £5)...

waiting on hearing about some money coming in (extra) but can't say much more as you never know who's reading what (asides from that it 'aint much and it's all legit) but so want to pay my OD off this month that I'm anxiously waiting for postie every day. :P

.....and training scheme have an allotment so it's free veggies after the summer for me :D - yay...(apparently last year they had so much they couldn't get rid of them all...it's the same site as my chums but a double one and in a lot better nick :))

Haha, just saw your world cup signature Erme, I like it! Hope it's not an infection in your ear and it gets better soon. Great news about the money and the veggies though! Good on you with the afghan - I've never made anything that big.

Hope you got on ok at the Doc Whitewing (haha, I thought the same as you about the GPs).

I've just done what is probably my last grocery shop of the month. Actually no, I will need some veggies and fresh stuff. I seem to be well under target but that is because I upped my grocery budget by quite a bit so I can eat organic as much as poss. I was able to save on other categories so I figured it wasn't cheating too much. :o

Hope everyone's ok and you're all having a lovely evening! :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
