I'm still feeling neither brave nor kind.
Poppy is moping about-she knows something is wrong.
DD is beside herself. (gone to parents now)

Good luck to Poppy - I do think you are doing the right thing. It will be hard for the little one, and for you, but it will free you up to focus on sorting your future out, and if handled well could be a good lesson for your daughter in 'doing the right thing' by an animal - much as you love Poppy, you know you cannot give her what she needs right now, so are letting her go to somewhere that can meet all her needs. Puppies are demanding, and not always a good choice for those with small children and other commitments on their time and attention - and you could not have forseen recent events.
